Well, after 2 long years we finally managed to finish our new short film: "La habitación inclinada" (The tilted room), a 9 minutes short film done by the three members of Kotoc, as a non-comercial project.

Here are the direct links to the movie, in 3 different formats for you to download (you know.. right click... save target as..blablabla.):

Quicktime6 (http://www.ladronesdecerebros.com/la_habitacion_inclinada.mov) : 400x300 49Mb (best quality)
Divx5.05 (http://www.ladronesdecerebros.com/la_habitacion_inclinada.avi) : 400x300 35Mb (Med quality )
OFFLINE Mpg: 352x288 86,8 Mb (Med Quality-Should play in any machine)

Also, feel free to browse through our new web, which we will try to keep updated adding new stuff periodically to the making-off section.

Class. The quality of the surfaces combined with the dirtmaps really gives gives it atmosphere, and the editing/music works very well indeed. Seen worse stuff than this reach the frontpage...

2 yeaRS?

Well, congrats with the film. It's surely a nice little work. Effective use of simple means to tell an interesting story. Had to laugh when the dog died, I gues that says something about me.....

07-02-2003, 01:41 PM
Hi again...

well, thanks very much for the coments...

2 yeaRS?
We just worked on it in our spare time, and without a deadline. Some weeks we worked alot, some others weeks we just didn't set a single key.
And actually, animation and editing was finished almost a year ago, but we've had a lot of trouble getting someone to do the sound for us. The three of us are mainly animators.

tell us more about the software and rendering
We used Softimage|3d for the animation, and mentalRay 2.1 for the render, with finalGathering on. Nothing really fancy, but the tools we had at hand. And Softimage|3d still is the best software when you have to do character animation.

well... thanks again

We will try to do something about it.. but we can't promise anything...

in the meantime... if somebody would be really kind to let us put our shortfilm in his server, we would be eternally grateful :)

thanks again..

Brilliant piece of work all around, stylized modelling, animation, camera work, sound/music and editing. The visuals and story snag you and don't let you go until they are finished.

Very well done, time well spent.

07-05-2003, 07:46 PM

whoa. i don't think i can say anything that hasn't already been said. i love it! everything fits together wonderfully, from the style of the characters, to the opening and end credits. nice touches all around. you hombres are loco!

07-05-2003, 08:55 PM

07-05-2003, 08:58 PM

Pretty work, beautiful edition and photograph, excellent history. You deserves the Oscar to Shortcut Movie of the next year.

The sound track was perfect.

07-06-2003, 01:21 AM
Nice work,

lovely animation, flights of fancy.

The shot of the fellow in the elevator and the vertical / horizontal play of light gets my vote for best in the flick. Outstanding design.

07-06-2003, 02:11 AM
Dude! That is sooo cool :D

07-06-2003, 02:31 AM
beautiful and original!!!!

07-06-2003, 05:00 AM
Absolutely brilliant.

There are so many shorts posted on this site, which sometimes make me say 'wow' or perhaps chuckle a little, but nothing I've seen has been as beautiful, expressive and artistic as this. Not only was the animation and asesthetic styling superb, but the cinematography and composition was very well thought out and executed. And of course the story had so much feeling too.

I can't say enough good things about this - amazing. It's definitely obvious that it's been a 2 year labour of love - I can see you've put your hearts and souls into it.

07-06-2003, 05:42 AM
It reminds me too much of what I've been through in the last year (no, I'm not crazy... at least... not yet).

I just hope the character will be able to gain back his mind, so that he can go back to work at his wonderful job and... ?! Uhm... forget I said that, he'll be happier being crazy.

So subtle, but so perfect. It's what it needed to be. I'm looking forward to seeing future work.

- Jeremy

i loved the dog that was awesome, but why did he have to die. o well. but anywasy the story was great, it goes to show what you can do with such simple characters, and still make a great short. good job

07-06-2003, 08:24 AM
Your short is litteraly wonderfull ! :applause: (light, design, camera, redering are crazy, fabulous, incredible)
YEAH ! :buttrock:

07-06-2003, 10:39 AM
Beautifull work, I love the Tango part. Great choice of music :] One thing, I want to get this story a bit more clear, cause I don't really understand it right now.

This guy has a very boring life it seems, and when he got home, with the same dog, and same boring programs broadcasted on his tv, he gets crazy? And starts smashing things. Only in his imagination these things start to glow. And by this he works himself in an isolated room?

Great work again, very nice!

07-06-2003, 11:26 AM
That is one of the best shorts I have ever seen, in my opinion up there with 50% Grey en For the Birds.

As many have stated: everything about it was awesome. Thanks for entertaining me for the last 9 minutes, it's a great inspiration.

07-06-2003, 12:19 PM
I like that dog, it's very cute, and it's a pity it died at last.
Anyway, very cool animation, especially the CA for the dog.

07-06-2003, 08:33 PM
my god that was the most creative short I have ever seen in my life... that has some serious depth and social reflection that can be definitely written about in a term paper... wow...:buttrock:

07-06-2003, 08:37 PM

But does the dog really die?:)

07-07-2003, 08:57 AM
:applause: Very art house, and I LOVE art house! Excellent work Kotoc! I'd love to work with you on something. :) I'm about to finish a short film of my own soon. I'll post it here later this month for yall to see.

07-07-2003, 04:15 PM
Wow! This was absolutely amazing. Keep it up.. A piece of my opinion and contribution to this movie.. I hope thats k with u and i hope u like it:

Locked out in a room
Bright white and blue
Burning my eyes
Apocalyptic peace
Hurts my mind...
I will just forget
Forget and break away
In this tilted room

Tilted room
The peace of mind
Tilted room
Unreal opportunities

I push the walls
To see the sky
With crimson blood
It drops

Tilted room
Cell for fantasy
Tilted room
My mind...

Great work!

I only think that the music and sound effects don't do justice. I also think that the story is a little typical, but won't be surprised to see it in siggraph 2004 ;)
