Hi, i made this for a friend of mine`s project.Although the whole body is not completed yet i decided to make a still image.

Impressive....Most Impressive...

Nuthing bad to say about it really..

07 July 2003, 09:30 AM
Awesome work

Very nice image indeed, lighting is superb, would be nice to see the wire to see if you modelled the wrinkles. The only thing what looks slight wrong is the head piece looks like it's chopping into the forehead...

07 July 2003, 09:40 AM
Awesome work! :applause:

WoW! Impressive work! Really awesome!
Wireframe please!

07 July 2003, 10:35 AM
awsume work very nice detaile
the guy remindes me a bit to the planet of the apes

07 July 2003, 10:37 AM
Pretty nifty, although I'm not so sure about what looks like the beard intersecting his fingers in several places.

07 July 2003, 10:43 AM
Wow, damn beautiful! Love the model and the lighting is really nice and soft too. The aliasing does bug me though.
I was also thinking that it would look better if the hand actually pressed into the skin a bit. When in deep thoughts I at least don't just lightly touch my chin, I either lean on it or grab onto it =)

07 July 2003, 10:53 AM
wow, this is amazing, and what a giant step forward compared to your last image!

Nice point, wiro! I agree the pose will look much natural if he presses his fingers into the skin. Otherwise, it's a beautiful image! great job.

07 July 2003, 11:03 AM
another great one
congrats on winning this competition ( too

07 July 2003, 11:24 AM
simply amazing

07 July 2003, 11:28 AM

07 July 2003, 11:59 AM

07 July 2003, 12:26 PM

Awesome colors, lighting, modeling, texturing. It's all perfect.

Breathtakingly good.

07 July 2003, 12:40 PM
Awesome!! great model, perfect mapping and good lightning!

you are becoming one of greatest italian 3D artists!

very very compliments!

07 July 2003, 12:50 PM
Incredible, you have got astounding skills! Just one little thing, the lighting looks a little indecisive, being split down the middle like that - quite an extreme difference between the left and right side of the image. To me, personally, the lighting makes it unbalanced. Other than that, it rocks!:buttrock:

07 July 2003, 12:51 PM
Thanks to you all people !!!

I agree with most of the critiques you have done, the hand intersects with the beard in some points, and definitely it would be better to stick it more on the skin of the face...but well , both problems were not much easy to handle eheh

About the AA problem ...well i think it`s an artefact caused by the sharpen filter (post process) in Photoshop, i will try to correct it in some way.

P.S., i forgot to say i used Shag Hair for beard and eyebrows.
Here`s a couple of wires and additional pictures (last ones are early working steps)

Thanks again, Ale

07 July 2003, 01:06 PM
Finaly, it is done! :)
I really like everything about it. The texture is great! The hair is great. modeling is perfect. getting a lot of details. I would like to see it without his hand. So we could see the whole face. Anyway, top work my friend!

07 July 2003, 01:41 PM
wow! great.. model! love the details! :applause:

07 July 2003, 01:57 PM
Man that is a sweet image. I agree about the lower part of the hand. I think all it needs is to come out a little. If you make that pose with your own hand you'll see what I mean. Its a little too straight. Excellent work though.

07 July 2003, 02:19 PM
no crits, a masterpiece. Great work

07 July 2003, 02:20 PM
The skin and hair detail is absolutely amazing.

Please, please keep up the excellent work. I want to see more;)

07 July 2003, 02:28 PM
Damn, that is really great! Excellent lighting, pose and beard.

07 July 2003, 03:36 PM
peace be upon you,

thats gonna be really an inspiration for me....The lighting is sooooo cool.. would you mind to write a simple tutorial for the texturing and shading part.....It will be really helpful for new ppl like us....:)

07 July 2003, 04:02 PM
M E N T A L ... thats just amazing, I┤m to scared now to get back to my lowpoly work. ;)

07 July 2003, 04:04 PM
:eek:wow :scream:

thats a ace.. very convincing textures.

07 July 2003, 04:11 PM
fine work. really like the detail.

07 July 2003, 04:12 PM
hmm, the beard seems to pass through the fingers on some places though...but the whole images is realy great :)

07 July 2003, 04:39 PM
i have a critique
the hand held up to his mouth well the back of that hand's shader seems a little to random
maybe make the texture follow the models shape maybe texture the same as the bumps colors

If you can make it move like Cid in Final Fantasy then i think you'd match that level of visual appeal. It really is great, not too many know how to use Fur like you do.

If you were shooting for the wise look. I'd say you did it flawlessly. And excellent choice of lighting.

07 July 2003, 05:58 PM
Just to say very cool...

07 July 2003, 06:03 PM
very good!
nof said...

07 July 2003, 07:16 PM

07 July 2003, 07:39 PM
Absolutely JAW-DROPPING stunning work.

07 July 2003, 10:40 PM
i really like this image alot, awesome lighting, modeling, textures, beautiful.

the only thing that doesnt sit well with me is the index finger, i dont know if its sticking out too straight, or its length, size, im not sure, but thats as close as i could come to pin pointing the reason why im not fully diggin this.

dont get me wrong, my first line describes what i think of it but im just not immeresed into the image as i have been with other peoples work.

great job, cant wait to see the entire body

07 July 2003, 10:41 PM
Unbelievable! Any chance getting it bigger to my desktop? Around 1600x1280?? :D

07 July 2003, 12:03 AM
I don't mean to be a partypooper here, but I'd like to see the character in a different lightning setting, and the anti-aliasing could've been pumped up a bit. Nothing else.. I promise :D

07 July 2003, 12:07 AM
Not sure about the colours, but that model is stunning!!!

07 July 2003, 12:21 AM
Super modeling as always Ale.

Btw I'd like to say:

Glad your pilot boy wins.

Seriously Ale YOU SHOULD make an anim of him.

07 July 2003, 01:02 AM
hmmmmmmm......... what to crit.

nothing wrong with him , amazing modeling skill  I like the hair and textures a lot

07 July 2003, 01:28 AM
Very cool. :) Looks like Andross from Star Fox.

07 July 2003, 01:34 AM
cool, amazing thing. but the lighting color is not mixed very well, coz that seems be split into two parts.

but wow! fabulous.

07 July 2003, 02:53 AM
This guy screams character and very good looking hair and lighting.

Great work

07 July 2003, 03:25 AM

It really is.

07 July 2003, 07:51 AM
well, people... i don`t know what to say, except that it`s very exciting to receive so many positive feedbacks.

For those who asked about tutorials on shading and lighting i can only say that i`d like to have the time to write something like that :(, but maybe soon in summer holidays i will have some...i`ll see.

And for the wallpaper....well, i`m planning to make a high res render for print, when available i will show it on my website.

Thanks again to you all

07 July 2003, 04:12 PM
just one little thing, and it could be personal choice/opinion. the direction of some of the wrinkles flow in a direction that is not comfortable to me. mainly i'm speaking of the ears. the back of the hand also, but i think someone already mentioned that. awesome stuff.

07 July 2003, 10:50 PM

I'm staring at the monitor to my left wondering how long you have been modeling, actually I want to know your age. It's a wonderful model for the still frame you have made, and I wonder how the shag hair and the rest of the model works while animated. Not to say it's not a great model, I'm just wondering how you got to where you are? Too many of us computer nerds spned too much time worrying about wheather or not we will make it as an artist while we should be worrying about our direction as an influence on society. I love the model, yet the ides of an ape pondering whatever, totally throws me off as to your age and knowledge of life. Great model and very well renderd, but what is an experienced and knowledged person to do with this kinds exploration of the Darwin Theory. If you're looking to inspire someone, or anyone for that matter, please be true to yourself and think about what is happening in the world. We don't need anymore philosophy, and fantasy. Model reality.
