06 June 2003, 09:26 AM

06 June 2003, 09:53 AM
just downloaded him, awesome!! :applause: :applause: mmmm play using the Matrix mutator for extra effect :D

06 June 2003, 10:17 AM
Holy excrement! That kicks some serious ass! That is better than the Smith model they had on Enter the Matrix. You made my day with this one! :applause:

06 June 2003, 10:35 AM
very nice!
what's the count? any chance of wires? and hey, perhaps texture? by the looks of it, you did a great job on all of that...
hmm.... an army of smiths in ut2k3 would be pretty intimidating, but nothing a single redeemer shot couldn't handle heheheh...
:surprised -ill

06 June 2003, 12:19 PM
very good
can you show a screen shot maybe?

06 June 2003, 01:07 PM
very kewl piece of work...not that i play ut2k3 :P

06 June 2003, 01:59 PM
I like the emphasis on the mouth. It looks just like Hugo Grant, I think that's his name.

06 June 2003, 02:07 PM
I love ut2003 and you did a ****ing excellent job!!! :buttrock: :buttrock::

06 June 2003, 02:13 PM

06 June 2003, 04:18 PM
Very cool getting alot of + feedback online. Thanks!! and Kudos

06 June 2003, 05:24 PM
thanks all for your comments.

a few more shots...

06 June 2003, 05:24 PM

he weighs in at 2679 polys - i couldn't resist dumping a few extra ones in his shoes to get a smoother reflection effect from the 2k3 cube maps.

06 June 2003, 05:33 PM
and a game screen -

06 June 2003, 06:06 PM
Not really into low-poly game models but I have to say this is really sweet:buttrock:

07 July 2003, 06:02 AM
Im going to ba a pain in the butt and ask...

Where is the earpiece, man???

Other than that, sweet job on the model and the texturing is fantastic. The in game screeshot is really a nice touch.
Good luck with the contest!

07 July 2003, 06:15 AM
He gave the earpiece to Neo...

He's "free"... remember that from reloaded?

07 July 2003, 06:25 AM
Question about that wireframe of the face.
Is your poly count from that wireframe or 2000+ after some sort of mesh smooth applied to it?
Or does UT2k engine smooth for you automatically?

07 July 2003, 06:30 AM
Im still going to say he isn't quite the same without the earpiece. It's the symbolism of the thing, you know?

07 July 2003, 06:48 AM
woah.. awsome.. the skin is very nicely done. damn. i dont play UT2003.

Could you make one for SOF2? that would be very cool i always pick the guy that looks most like em but it never gives the same feeling

07 July 2003, 06:55 AM
excellent !

07 July 2003, 07:00 AM
Great model.. I will be stealing your way of making an ear for my model. ;)

I have one crit, though. For how distinct you made his face, the hair is kindof blurred.

07 July 2003, 07:09 AM
Geez, that is just a kick ass model. Expecially for a game like this, perfect integration. Fits right in. Glad that you chose to make him. looks great!

07 July 2003, 07:19 AM
Wow, that is an awesome game model. It makes me want to buy UT2K3!

Hehe, his name is Hugo Weaving, you're mixing him with Hugh Grant (the guy from About a Boy and Notting Hill).

07 July 2003, 07:25 AM
i have seen few awesome ut2003 models in here. I think this is one of the best i've seen!

but what bothers me most:

I DON'T HAVE UT2003!!!!

07 July 2003, 07:30 AM
great great textures. how do you go about getting rid of the seams when painting from one uv shell to another? great looking. but hoping you could tell me how you do that .

07 July 2003, 07:46 AM
thats cool !!!! nice work:buttrock:

07 July 2003, 09:17 AM
Thats an Excellent Smith model for UT2K3:thumbsup:

I downloaded this one a while ago, loved it!.. and now the architect :p (creator) is here.. nice!

and btw.. Smith is not an agent anymore, so... no earpiece :shame:

07 July 2003, 09:21 AM
Hey jturner,

Congratulations on a sweet model and texture. I was wondering if you could post the Body texture as well. The face texture is really well done! I checked out your website and saw you worked on Alice, my favorite game of all time!

07 July 2003, 11:48 AM
Relly nice texture !

07 July 2003, 11:50 AM
thanks for the comments.

dmcgrath - i agree, the earpiece is a strong symbol but i thought the absence of it was too. like robioto and Iverson said, this version represents smith free from the collective.

Neil - triangle count is 2000+ as it appears in the wireframe. in max speak that's not the same as the poly count if you're talking about the ngons surrounded by visible edges. each of those can be made up of multiple triangles. ut2k3 renders the model as is, doesn't add any tris to it.

Hammer - don't have a SOF2 version planned, gonna stick with 2k3 for player modeling for the time being.

levitateme - i use the photoshop eyedropper alot to make sure that the hue/value at the edges of each uv segment match up with the ones they need to connect to. i also try to stick the seams in places where they're least visible (inner leg) or where there's a logical break in the model (neck/shirt). a 3d paint program like deep paint 3d comes in handy sometimes for laying out lines that need to pass from one segment to another.

pighat - glad you liked Alice, it was a fun game to work on ;) here's ( a link to the body skin.

07 July 2003, 12:24 PM
It looks cool to me; it's my new default for enemy bots :D

What's your next planned player character for UT2003?

07 July 2003, 01:31 PM
very, very nice. Imay have to go buy U3 now!!

07 July 2003, 01:51 PM
Great Great Work!!

I agree with some of people about earpiece.
Even though, he's "free"...

It makes me wanna play UT2003!!

07 July 2003, 02:02 PM
Great work! The modelling is right on and the texturing is superb! Definitley two thumbs up

07 July 2003, 02:38 PM
wow awesome texturing! real accurate! :)

07 July 2003, 03:02 PM
Great work!

I agree with everyone: Earpiece! Would it be possible to just add a model with one? It would be awesome.

07 July 2003, 04:46 PM
 All we need now is Neo and that'll probably be all we'll ever see on any UT server, especially if it is as stunning as the Smith model.

Excellent job on the face you captured a striking likeness using low poly, something I'd love to be able to do myself.
Great texture, great model, it's people like you that make me work harder when learning 3D Max.

Good job :applause:

Time for me to start using some low poly tutorials.

07 July 2003, 05:20 PM
funny thing is, i just uninstalled ut2k3, lol.. but cuz of this, i'm gonan reinstall it lol

07 July 2003, 06:04 PM

07 July 2003, 06:17 PM

07 July 2003, 07:45 PM

All someone needs to do now is create an Unreal version of the Elf King form Lord of the Rings.

Allow me to be the first to say:

07 July 2003, 08:16 PM
Its Hugo Weaving.

Very Nice indeed, I maybe will install Ut2k3 again :applause:

07 July 2003, 10:18 PM
lol. great stuff!

i just battled 16 agents smiths in the matrix lobby on godlike setting! oh the fun!

good job tho! another great UT2k3 model on cgtalk!

i'm still convinced the cgtalk ut2k3 players should all meet "in the arena" to do battle! if anyone is intrested my player name is manmadegod and mostly found on a server called mokum x!

Amazing... Both on mesh and texture!
Awesome skills my friend!

The details on the face texture files are umparallel!!!

Now all i need is a copy of Unreal2k3

Please bring more quality skins like this any time!!!

07 July 2003, 12:15 AM
HellWolve: i think i downloaded a huge pack of maps from

it may be the same one your on about. the texture is very basic, all green. a large main room, with the 2 door ways at one end. the mega shield is in centre of room.

if u wanted it real bad, i guess i could mail you it!

07 July 2003, 12:42 AM
Wow, great work! *bowdown*

07 July 2003, 05:02 PM
Nice geometry. I'm digging the lip a lot, I think you captured his personality quite well with that lip overhang.

I also like the creases at the bottom of the pants quite a bit.

You're texture space seems like it might be a bit wasteful, but all in all, it's a wonderful piece and it looks very polished in the game lighting. Good job.

Also any plans on making a tutorial to teach amatuers (like me) on how to make such a good low poly model. Also that texture work is astounding how you managed it is completely beyond me.

 Great work.

Baron - don't have the spare time to write tutorials at the moment but you might wanna check out the resource sections and messageboards at ( lots of good info over there.

Hellwolve - might take a crack at another if time permits but not sure which one ( yet ;)
