Here's a sketch I did a couple of years ago...I would like to color him soon. Any suggestions on a color scheme or mood?
05 May 2002, 02:40 AM
Is it that boring of a picture that no one has any suggestions???
05 May 2002, 02:45 AM
certainly not boring mate . . .
very well done even . . .
as for the colormood, dunno why, but Yoda comes to mind . . .
05 May 2002, 02:54 AM
ha ha...yeah, I've heard that before...can't go green though - would be too "yoda" like
05 May 2002, 02:57 AM
i'd say very deep pinktone then . . . you know, like over saturated . . . . and yellowish/grey hair mebby
05 May 2002, 02:59 AM
nice idea...definatly try that one out

Here is the beginnings of my color scheme - I actually started with an orangeish/pinkish scheme but I started to play with the color curves and reall liked the "ice-man meets yoda" feel to what it is now.
What do you think???

here's a closer shot of the face
thats looking cool and intersting seeing you do it step by step nothing to add as far as crits just enjoying it !

yo! How bout some critiques!
05 May 2002, 03:47 AM
Hmmm you wanted comments huh?
Well I think he looks more like some kind of old monkey-man, a blue one to be precise...;) I like the colours and it's nice to see some process going on....
Keep it coming!:wip:

I pushed some more color around...not a whole lot of changes but hey, this picture isn't exactly paying the bills you know what I mean?

another closer shot of the face...

I really like your stuff ... I definitely learned a thing or too watching you progress through development ...
Have you got any classical animation training by the way?
One comment .... I like the right ear better than the left .... (not that I'm a fan of symmetry .... )
The nice organic movement you have happening in the one would look nice if you had the same sort of movement in the other ...
But that's harshly nitpicking ...
I like it ...

On second thought ... screw it ...
I like that they're assymetrical ... adds tons of character ...

Thanks al_choi for your comments!
I really don't have a whole lot of experience as a traditional 2d animator, but I do draw a lot of concept work for both 2d and 3d mediums. I have more stuff on my web site at:
Also, have a look at my 3d work in progress as well and let me know what you think - the link to it is in my "signiture" at the bottom of this post
It inspires me to know that the progression of this piece is helping you learn something or see something that you might have not seen before in your own work - there could be no greater compliment my friend - thanks!

if ya ask me this is 5 STAR MATERIAL, really cool.
I mean, the concept is pretty original and it also shows that the dude who did it has a lot of knowledge in digital painting  :D

Hey, thanks Raul - I appreciate your comments!
05 May 2002, 09:34 PM
I like it, I like it!!
Deep, expressive eyes, maybe you should center the image a bit more, the composition (is that the word? composition?) looks weird to me...
05 May 2002, 09:56 PM
which composition are you refering to...the full one or the half one?
05 May 2002, 10:06 PM
I insist, I'm not sure "composition" is the right word in English, but I mean the full image

Hey sorry about the updates...I've been SLAMMED with work lately that I haven't gotten a chance to jump back on it. It's comin though I promise!

What program are you using to color?
10 October 2002, 05:42 AM
I'm using Painter by procreate with an intuos tablet
10 October 2002, 02:14 PM
I like the expression and image colouring very much.
Does anyone else think he looks a bit like Brezhnev on ice?
11 November 2002, 04:02 AM
thanks for the info

I'd have to say Gizmo from Gremlins, comes to mind before Yoda. The ears, mouth and eyes give it that mogwa look.
Keep up the great work, it's very well detailed!
