Noob question. I am trying to UV a character head and some points fall out the sqare, and are uneditable.
Is there a solution or do you recommend some freeware out there?

ctrl-u should unweld the points and make them editable. For some odd reason you may need to do this again several times as you make your UV's even though the model is already unwelded.
When you're done with the UV mapping, press m to merge the points back together.

If you haven't already, read this (http://www.menithings.com/main.php?action=how&how_id=7&manual=1) tutorial.
Just remember.. to successfully re-merge all your points, they can't be split apart UV-style in any of your Morph Maps! (I learned that one the hard way) Best to delete the Morph Map when you're done making a UV Map out of it.
