06 June 2003, 02:41 PM
gadget is proud to announce a new plugin for Lightwave, infiniMap V1.0 LE.
infiniMap LE is the first public available version of our in-house ecw texturing plugin, used succesfully for a
variety of terrain visualizations.
It allows for the use of ECW compressed image files of any size to texture Lightwave geometry. ECW is a file format
created by GIS applications from ERMapper ( http://www.ermapper.com ).
infiniMap is the only free plugin for Lightwave to support ECW imagery.
A commercial version of infiniMap is currently under devlopment.
The Freeware Version infiniMap LE can be downloaded at http://www.gadget.de/infiniMap and is currently available
for Windows only. infiniMap LE is compatible to Lightwave 7.0 and subsequent versions.
We also provide on-line documentation, a tutorial and a mailing list for users.
We hope that you enjoy the plugin.

I just downloaded and start playing with the tut. This is pretty cool. One question though. Where can I download more ECW images. I'm running a google search but still have not found available images.

I have to admit this plugin is very specific for people that use ER Mapper and work in GIS related fields.
However, you can get sample imagery from ER Mappers website, http://www.ermapper.com/products/ecw/sample_body.htm , this sample images don't include elevation data though.

lightwolf, Thanks I found and grabbed those last night. It seems like theres alot more out there some place from the number of different results I found from goggle just using 'ecw' for the search. In fact I narrowed it down to 'ecw images' and still got a gazillion results.
Is there a convertor somewhere out there to take other types of data and convert to ecw format? Form what I quickly read up on on the ecw format and the dem format it should be somewhat simple of a conversion. But let me stress the two words 'quickly' and 'seemed'. Its kinda like asking if anybody knows what will be in LW8.

ER Mapper have a free compressor for images up to 500MB:
The Photoshop Plugin will also save out images, again limited to a raw, uncompressed image size of 500MB.
...as for LW8, sorry, I have no idea  ;)

Thanks, I already went and grabbed the Photoshop pluggin. It works great, alittle work but it works! I grab what ever file format I want and I usually can get it into Photoshop I then create me grey scale image since I need it anyways. Convert it and off I go. This is fun!!! I've never played with real terrain imaging before. Gotta try some Mars data next!
As for LW8 it was a joke. NEVER ask about LW8 its a well I'm not sure what to say but a taboo subject in that everybody keeps bringing it up, over and over and over and over and...... again.
