demo Reel breakdown:

Impressed, you are GOOD!!

The only thing I would change is the part where you import stuff into MAX, tell a little bit more about what youīre doing instead of showing so much when your just going through the windoes-menues .... that beeing said, I no nothing about MAX so maybe itīs cristal to those users

I also thought the start was a bit stressful, maybe just slow it down a bit ...

The "Take" on the monkey/gorilla is COOL :applause::love::D:beer::cool:

Awesome work man!

Thank you for your feedback!
I was thinking the same about the beginning.
There are so many steps on the maxscripts, and a short time to show them in a demo reel.
Do you think will be good to start with the shark?

Sorry for my late respons. But I think you can move the auto-ribbon creation a bit further back and slow it down a bit. Other than that I like it, shark is fine to start with.

Another thing that is a bit "says nothing" is the part where you show the game-character rendered just doing odd stuff. I would remove that, or blend it in with the part where you show the movements in Maya.

For me the gorilla/monkey is the best in the reel along with the human muscle-character.

very nice reel, it looks to have some good points there, i like it all...
keep going on dude... :D

Awesome reel man. Some of those boxes that were explaining what you were doing were a little hard to read.

Some of the other stuff I wasn't sure what you were doing. Like when the shark was in the black window, what was that?

Music would also help, even though most companies turn the volume you when watching a reel.

Thank you guys!
I made a few changes.

I'm learning HLSL, I think Im going to leave it like that, until I have more stuff to show.

Great work that is for sure. Far to slow how ever, speed it all up as I found my self just scrubbing through it all. Good that you dropped all the windows popping up in Max, the tools that you are showing look interesting but I have no idea what they are doing and seeing file open dialogs just isn't interesting.

01 January 2009, 03:44 PM
I agree... the whole thing felt a little slow. I actually lost interest about a min. and a half through... I would suggest putting all the things you actually created in the beginning. Meaning, the muscle system, ribbon setup, etc. All your tools and coolness. Those seem the most intriguing to me. The Next Gen Character, shark thing didn't really show me anything of significance. Other than its a character you got into an engine, which doesn't necessarily need to be on there. Unless I'm not understanding what you were showing there. One thing I also recommend to riggers, is to give their rigs/chars to an animator and have them do something with it. A quick jump or run, or something fun, to show that someone who didn't make the rig can use it. Or, if you can animate well, then do it yourself. Its nice to see all the parts working together, instead of in isolation. There's my 2Ē.

I speed up everything a little bit!

Thank you Pen, for your feedback, by the way your DVDs are just incredible, I learned max right away just by watching your dvds.

Also thank you MoleMan, I'm going to post the shark rig at the animation forum, maybe someone wants to do something cool with it.
What I'm trying to show with the shark, is that I'm able to work at any point of a pipeline. Production Wise having a TD that can interact at any point of the pipeline is really helpful, because can save time and money.

Thank you!

reat reel,
my favorite was the part about muscles system !

in my opinion, you could try another music....this "funny beat" is cuting 100% off my atention........

i sent you MP with examples.

**** EDIT:
keep it up dude !

The music is simply horrible. The reel is amazing, but the music is giving me a massive headache.

01 January 2009, 05:41 PM
Right away I'm going to change the music.
Thank you Polimeno for your suggestion

Thanks to Polimeno!

I really like how you present your muscle system.
But if I was being finicky... I cant see how its deforming the monkey, he's a little too small on the screen to make out the subtle deformations.
Some very nice work there though!

I would still rip out the whole part when youre in the windows system looking for files, still makes me loose interest. Just put up a text that describes that you save the motion on the harddrive or something like that

Also I dont understand the "retopolgy and skinning 6 hours", what do you mean? Did it take 6 hours? Is it a script that does it in 6 hours? Does it allways take 6 hours instead of many more because of a script you have made? I think you need to be more clear about that part, otherwise take it out

Personally I would start with the human muscle character instead of the game character, itīs much more impressive! The stomach "breath-in" is awesom!
