Alright... based on a couple of requests from you guys i have created my second set of tutorials here... and this is a big one: Combining Live Action with CG!!

This tutorial is aimed at beginners of 3d or compositing packages who wish to integrate their CG scenes/character with real world video footages. I introduce the invisible art of camera tracking from the ground up here. So in this tutorial you also get a chance to learn the art of Matchmoving from an introductory level.

Combining computer generated (CG) characters with live-action footage can be a very rewarding experience. It has traditionaly been very difficult to make the digital character realistically seem to be a part of the real world. But now, the cat's out of the bag, and i am going to show how.
One of the challenges in making a CG character part of a real background is making the character move in exactly the same way the camera was moving in the real world. his is accomplished trough Matchmoving (camera tracking).

I will be introducing Boujou here, which is very popular Matchmoving application. The videos are broken up into several parts. Here is how the lessons are built:

Part 1- Project Overview

This first part is an overview of the project and a general discussion of Matchmove. We are going to look at the general definition of Matchmove and what we are going to accomplish in the tutorial.

Part 2- Introduction to the Boujou Interface:

This is the second part of the brand new introductory level series of tutorials in Matchmoving. Programs used are Maya and Boujou. Boujou is introduced from the ground up. An entire project is created from scratch to completion. In this second part we have a quick overview of the Boujou Interface. First timers in Boujou should definitely watch this.

Part 3- Importing Footage inside Boujou :

In this third part, we look at importing our video footage inside of Boujou and the relaetd parameters.

Part 4- Trcking the footage in Boujou for a 3D Solution :

In this fourth part, we look at feature tracking and generating a camera solution that we can use to send over in Maya.

Part 5- Exporting the scene for use in Maya :

In this fifth part, we look at adjusting the Scene Geometry and then exporting the scene for use in Maya.

Part 6 (Final)- Final Composite in Maya:

In this final part we integrate the CG elements with the maya scene we exported out of Boujou.

hi there... here's the footage that you can now download and work with the tuts:

am currently working on creating an advanced tut on the same topic... this will involve some Boujou tracking, animation (inside of maya), render passes, motion blur etc... and finally compositing inside of Fusion/Nuke/Shake.... so stay tuned!!
