View Full Version : ShaderMap Now Produces Sharp Normal Maps

01 January 2009, 06:27 PM
A new feature has been added to the recent release of ShaderMap Pro which allows the user to produce "sharper" normal maps. The new method decreases filter kernel size and therefore generates sharper normals when converting height maps.

For more information on this latest feature please see the documentation page: Sharp Normals (

Below is a highly detailed height/displacement map. When converted using the 4 sample nVidia PhotoShop filter the results are similar to using the standard conversion found in ShaderMap.
When the ShaderMap "Sharpen Normals" feature is enabled, the detail is retained in the resulting normals.
