Los Angeles, CA – (January 12, 2009) -- Director William Campbell’s short film “The Nature Between Us” will premiere at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. A TEAM G & Superfad co-production, “The Nature Between Us” surrounds an old VHS camera that reveals a bonkers back-alley gang struggling for a sense of identity in an animation and live-action mash-up.

“The Nature Between Us” will screen before the feature “Brief Interviews with Hideous Men” directed by John Krasinski (The Office):

Mon. Jan 19 3:15 PM at the Eccles Theatre

Tue. Jan 20 8:30 AM at the Racquet Club

Thu. Jan 22 5:15 PM at the Racquet Club

Fri. Jan 23 8:30 PM at the Library Center Theatre

Sat. Jan 24 3:30 PM at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center (SLC)

In a swirl of spray paint, sweet bike tricks, sloppy joes and young love, the gang stumbles upon a tiny secret world, creating a reality bending fusion of culture and style. As the two worlds collide, the characters discover The Nature Between Us.

Director Will Campbell ‘s approach to the film was inspired by the idea that in many cases animation can feel very sincere and live-action resonates something completely synthetic.

“I wondered what would happen if these two worlds met each other,” he explains. “Then, what would it feel like to see this miniature animation that was passionate and completely focused? Would the live-action seem animated? Would the animation seem more real? Could the mixed media become one thing?”

Campbell began with drawings of the animated characters and developed the rest of the film from there. He wanted to juxtapose the invented creatures with the most synthetic live action possible so he drew from 80's cinema for the overarching aesthetic. He worked with two entities, TEAM G, a production collective of which Campbell is a member, and SUPERFAD, the hybrid production company where Campbell is a director, to realize the project. TEAM G provided the core production group with Superfad participating in both a funding and animation and visual effects capacity.

“In addition to producing advertising and entertainment content for others, we like to support personal creative projects by and for our team,” says Superfad Executive Producer Kevin Batten. “So when Will approached us with the concept, we were excited to be involved and executive produce the film. The Sundance premiere is an exciting opportunity for Will and a great place for the film’s premiere.”

"TNBU has been a truly collaborative effort and Will's concept really allowed everyone the Team G collective to work to their creative potential,” comments TEAM G Producer Jett Steiger. “TEAM G enjoyed success at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival with the short film The Execution of Solomon Harris (dirs. Ed Yonaitis and Wyatt Garfield) and it is exciting to return in 2009. You really can't beat the sense of community that a festival of this caliber provides to young filmmakers like us.”
