Does anyone know of a free sss shader for Lightwave??

No, but there is a dirt cheap and very powerful SSS shader called OGO_Hikari. I have seen some amazing things come out of this shader. I think it is thirty dollars. Check out flay.com for more info.

The site I believe is in Japanese, so you may want some kin dof translator, like babylon. Unless your fluent in Japanese. Wish I was.

You can find a free plugin called 'Ska' on flay.
Haven't tried it much yet but It might help depending on what you need.
