Hey, I'm modeling head now and I need some help with eyes. Look at this and tell me if there is something wrong with eyes(I'm not talking about mesh-that obviously need more work, but position, size etc) bcouse I dont want start them form zero third time:>

Only thing I think you should change is the bridge between her eyes. It seems really bulbous, and portrudes way to far out on the forehead. They are spaced apart well enough, but are too sunken in. finish up the modelling around the eyes and then post again.

And if you are using Brazil then I think you better read a manual. It looks like the default scanline to me.

I agree w/ what gamaron said about the bridge. I've attached an image that shows that a little better.

Also, I know you were primarily asking about the eyes but the sides of her mouth look a little pinched. Almost like the lip poly's meet in tri's. I would add another line to the side of the mouth to make the corner of the mouth more squarish and keep it quads. Then simply pull the side of the top lip slightly over the bottom lip.

You should also note, that there usually is about an eye's width between the outside of the eye and the side of the head. Right now, there is about a quarter that distance.

Like this?

And mouth, is it good now?

Hes right. The distance to the side of the head is tiny. Also, the distance between the eyes is usually about the width of a single eye as well. Heres what I mean:

A B and C should all be about equal unless you are going for a very stylized human form.

WARNING: Please DO NOT show rendered wires. they are hard to make out and are rather useless. when you show wireframes to us make sure its what you see in the viewport. usually there is an option to show them. or even selecting the geometry will be fine too.

this is the kind of wires we expect to see.

CRITIQUE: i would try to fix the tips of the mouth. right now it looks like its merely a knife cut in paper. try to give the character some thickness. also look at the image i posted above. notice how many edges there are on the tips. this is because once the character opens its mouth i know ill be able to get a smooth result.

Ok. I edited distances between eyes and sides
How is it now?

And can anyone tell me how big should be eye-ball?

Wasn't it an eyeball has a one inch radius? Mainly you should determine the eyeball size, then the eyeball spacing, (5 eyeball wide head, one eyeball between each eye), then work from there. Its really a matter of ratios than absolute size.
A couple more things: the bridge of the nose should be above the center of the eyball (it appears to be official called the nasion, anyways, where the nose leaves the brow, v's and begins pointing outwards.), unless of course the face doesn't actually have such a v, though the rough placement of that bone should still be the same.
Then the eyelashes are going to be just long enough to reach this nasion, (this is mainly for anglo faces, asians as they generaly have flatter faces are an obvious exception), and by this you can place the approximate depth of the eyes in the side view.

Finally check out the Topology thread ( You need to work on the flow of your face, particularly around the mouth. The character will be unable to smile effectively as no dimples can be formed.

Move eyes forward. Not too much?

06 June 2003, 09:05 PM
I don't think the eyes are too far forward but you need to accomodate it by fixing the cheekbones. The part under her eyes looks a bit sunken now.

Here's 2 images of what i meant about the lips. First is a wire close up.
it's hard to tell but the corner of the lips are actually square w/ 2 lines coming out to define just the corner, so the lips look more like this...

The corner of the top lip should have that slight hang over the bottom lip right at the edges of the mouth. What martin was saying about the mouth is right, it looks like a knife cut in paper right now without any volume. It's something i'm just now learning to fix myself in my models.

I think a lot of the problems with this head have come from the reference you've used: This site ( should explain what's wrong with the profile image in question.

In addition, the distance between the eyes and the mouth is way too long, and the eyes appear to protrude too far from the head.

It seems I must do a new face... Thanks for help, and links... I learned much from these sites. To next time, maybe I will need some help with new face;)

I was going to say bring the nost did but i think its to pointy now, you should make it more rounded also ambient whisper saying what iwas going to say about the lips. it looks like angeejeenieninia, but they need to be fuller.
