View Full Version : rigging thumbs

I'm working on a rig for my character, and I'm trying to figure out how to get the thumbs set up. Nothing i seem to do 'works'. The problem is the base joint of the thumb, the one that starts at the base of the wrist and lets the hand grab things. I can't figure out how to make the set driven keys control it.

I'm using Maya, and set driven keys to drive the fingers.

Any help would be appreciated.

what i usually do is setup two SDKs on the 2nd and 3rd joints, one to bend the thumb and one to cup the thumb but leave the base joint to be controlled with a curve controller.

just depends on how you want to animate it. check out some other rigs and see what you like

yeah, that's my 'dirt simple fallback' solution.

Would the base joint be the one that's closest to the wrist, or the next one down?
