Ok here is my Idea: The entire Ice Kingdom, "the Castle", wich will be entirely made out of ice, will be on giant Iceberg called "Icelandia", this Iceberg will be so big that it will have it's own ecosystem, Waterfalls, wild life, trees "Frozen-trees", even volcanic activity wich we will see in the form of steam, since I don't have time to tell the hole story I will show you only the end of the kingdom. " a secuence of the iceberg melting by the volcanic activity, followed by a huge explotion and finnaly the sinking of "ICELANDIA". All of this will be witness by a giant whale called "the King".

Did I meantion that the style will be steampunk, "just in case I don't make it to this challenge...

:thumbsup: HAHAHA, just kiding, I'll be glad if a can achieve only 10 % of what I just wrote.

Isn't FXWars a "mini" challege, sounds like you have yourself a feature film.

Thats it, I am doomed for sure (even if you only pull off 10% of this).

Ok so here is Iceberg Initial model, I modeled it in Maya and took it to Zbrush to make the different types and variations


This is the Scene in Maya, there is no castle yet I know., this is basicly my BG Plate.

I think it is, for the snow just try to use a max blend shader, in the first channel plug a ramp with the colors of the snow and then on the other chanel a noise map to give it some variation, for the mask use what ever black and white image you like could be a smoke procedural texture, or anything you like, then just plug a noise or smoke to the bump and displacement channels of your max scene.

Ohh and donŽt forget the ambient oclussion shader in the ambient color of your shader, thats key to get nice shadows.

that should do the trick within max.
