View Full Version : 3ds max matte render output only?

I'm kind of new at this render elements stuff. I'm trying to do a matte render of an animation that is way too long to re render from scratch. I need to just render the matte output and not have to wait for the final render to get done first. How do I go about this? Would this be a render element option or video post?

You can just apply a white 100% self illuminated material to the object, isolate it and render out black and white jpeg for the matte. It will render really fast that way.

If any objects obscure it at any point, just be sure to apply a matte/shadow material to those and uncheck effect alpha.

There's also the alpha pass under render elements you can use, but that will do the whole scene at once, without the control of applying material to specific objects.
