View Full Version : Renaming Heirarchies in Maya

Hey guys,

I have a pretty simple question. I built the heirarchy for my character, starting on the left side. I built out the arm and named the joints appropriately (Bone_L_clavical, Bone_L_shoulder, Bone_L_bicep, etc.) Then I mirrored the joints. Now, they all have the same names at the L side, but I would like to rename the joints on the right side, replacing the L with an R in the joint names.

I am in Maya 7.0. Does anyone know an easy way to do this?

Not sure about the 7.0 version, but these features exists in the later version of maya

When u mirror joints u can put in a "search and replace" when mirroring and maya will do it for you

Otherwise there is a "search and replace" under the Modify-menu

been a little while since I worked in 7.0, but check Modify -> Search and Replace Names..

they also have "add prefix"
