Is he taking orders yet? I could use a second workstation.

At first I couldn't really tell what it was; the shoulders kind of overwhelmed me. You might want to tone them down some so the head sticks out more in profile. I like the idea of vices for hands. Cool character!

there is a little "Ape bot" influence in him.....I'll see what I can do to tone down the shoulders...but I kind of like the proportion as is....I'll play with him a bit...

Nooo! Don't change the proportions! I really like the design. It's Ape bot 2.0!

Is that a duracell battery in the middle?

Very cool. A most worthy successor to the apebot :)

Be fun rigging this one :scream:

Kretin = King of Rigging!

Why does everyone hate rigging so much? In my intro class, I liked that the most. It'd be fun to have a go rigging that guy.

Hi proton, cool looking bot. The head could probably use a bit more design or detailing. But overall, I really like the design.

As for as rigging. I hate rigging. I like to animate. I dont like to rig. The only stinking reason I rig is ultimately for animation. If I dont animate, then I probably would enjoy rigging. It's the same reason I dont like modelling too much either. Another reason I can think of is that rigging is more of a left brain kinda thing, and animation is a right brain process. They don't mix too well for me.

Went back and looked at it again. Looking at it from the point of view of an ape, the shoulders do make more sense. As far as the face goes, I kinda like it. When you animate it are the eyes going to change sizes? Kretin's frog's made me think of it. They add a lot of emotion to them, it'd be interesting to see what it could do to a robot.

edit: fixed typo

Kretin rigged teh Dog Bot to do the eyes like that and I love it....so you never know what he'll do on this one!:bounce:

Thanks Proton :)

I think I'll do this one slightly differently, scaling the eyes evenly rather than just the height, give it a bit different feel.

Just curious.... Who did the "bots" that ship with lightwave, and where they just created for fun? Or were they part of an actual project?

I'm confused as to why it would be difficult to rig this character also... seems pretty simple to me... no complex facial rigging, no difficult finger rigging, no horrible shoulder deformation problems... simple... aaaahhhhhh... ;-)

Have you seen Jonny's rigs....I wouldn't call them simple...the eye rig he did on my last robot was brilliant....he always adds some really cool features...you'll see :)
