View Full Version : Material-driven particle emission possible?

11 November 2008, 07:08 PM

I'm currently using xsi6.5 (yeah, I know this problem could easily be solved in ICE, ha ha ha)
I'm working on a project right now that requires me to drive particles through the use of a procedural material.

I have seen tutorials on driving particle rate emissions with texture maps and have been able to get that going properly.

What I'm looking for however is a way to plug in a fractal to the emission rate which would allow me to adjust the fractal values to directly influence the emission.
currently I have applied a fractal material to a grid. Is it possible to now use that as some sort of weight map or something?

I understand I could always just render off a fractal image sequence and plug that in. But then everytime I have to make changes I'd have to rerender a new fractal sequence and plug that in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thx~!
