I also got the CD just a few days ago...
I have two small (newbie) questions:
1) I am used to 3dsm and I can't find the rotate tool box (so you can rotate around an object)?
2) When you select a vertex how do you manipulate it?

05 May 2002, 11:57 PM
use the "s" key to rotate, pan and zoom. at the bottom of the XSI interface you can see the letters L, m and r. they stand for the mouse buttons and always tell you what you can do. So the s is for navigation in the viewports.
To drag vertices hit the "m" (move points) and drag around. you hae to know that you should use the "x" "c" and "v" for scale, rotate and move.

Watch the tutorial vids yesterday. I must say, I really like the workflow. It remind me at the workflow of US Animation ( 2d ink and paint program ).
I'm printing the tutorials out and start in this weekend discovering XSI.

finally the softimage carrier pigeon arrived in ireland yesterday. ive been using lightwave for nearly a year now, and judging by the tutorial videos i could be using softimage instead. it looks really great.

but time will tell etc.etc.etc. blah blah

fair play to softimage for providing it free even internationally. and this months 3d world has maya ple on its cover disc.

now, wheres my cheque book......

05 May 2002, 02:10 AM

05 May 2002, 03:55 AM

But I request my cd about 2 month ago

And a second time 2 week ago

I recived the "Experience CD" this weekend :p . It looks great, but I haven't check yet, only a litle look.

Have this "demo" any restrictions? a watermark, limited time or whatever?

:bounce: :bounce:

by reading everything here and there of how ppl are happy about switching to and liking XSI compare to other programs i must say that XSI's feature looks really bright. thank god i chose it for my demo reel instead of maya coz when i was choosing in college to which program to stick to we there was only XSI 1.5 by that time and it was great. i desided to take a risk though industry didn't use softiamge much at that time. now things changing. i'm so happy i didn't make a mistake and was right about XSI all alone :)

yeah, received mine after waiting for a month ... heven't checked it though ... need to sleep first ....

05 May 2002, 01:20 AM
Received mine 3 days ago. Had to wait 2.5 months for it. But it was worth it!

05 May 2002, 02:31 AM
any idea if i can view the videos without an internet connection ? i don't have net at home and it seems to require a particular codec ....:hmm:

05 May 2002, 07:19 AM
To see the videos you don't need a connection.

My precious just arrived after about 2 months.... Can any of you who
have used 3DS Max in the past talk to me about Softimage and how
the two compare? I saw a demo at Siggraph last year and
thought the animation system was as close to perfect as you could get.

Im a former MAX user and to make a long comparison between the program short: Just have a look at the videos on the experience CD. Should answer all your questions (if not, bee more precise and Ill try to help you)

Null_, go to register and get free trainingcd's ( Max, Maya, XSI ) They are very good. They start basic but every month they go up the ladder.
The best part is, it's free.

Sorry, my replu whas for CANIM8 ( mixed the name ).

It is a monthly subscribtion so how can you unsubscribe?

05 May 2002, 10:59 AM
I guess you just go and uncheck everything on your list. Or maybe ask the mods...

05 May 2002, 09:59 AM

05 May 2002, 12:48 PM
