View Full Version : Help! Trouble with Lightwave export

I've been doing this over and over, but I can't seem to figure out what's wrong.

For some reason, no matter what skeleton I've used (either the premade RevE provided by 3dDave, or one I've built using the naming from the Maya export video) I have problems with the arms of my character. The model characterizes fine, but if I map a motion cap file to it, the arms are all wonky (the legs, spine, neck and head seem to follow the mocap perfectly).

I've tried everything I can think of to solve this.

Could a fellow Lightwaver/Motionbuilder please download my .lws/.obj/.fbx and see if they can figure out where I'm going wrong?

Just an idea, is your model in a T pose? It has to be an almost perfect T pose or else u have strange things going on like legs bending the wrong way, it happend to me.

I think you should take care of the parenting stuffs...

Shoulders and Legs aren't parented to the Hips and Spine bones... I think that's already one of the reason MB can't characterize your model.

I'm confused... did you look at the .lws I posted?
the legs are parented to hips, and the arms are parented to Spine3...
At least it looks that way to me!???

Ok... I didn't check it out good at first place but I still don't understand your problem cause I assigned a mocap file to it and It looks ok to me:

Maybe you should try another mocap file.


PS: you'll need the lastest DivX(5.05) to watch the test I did with your scene.

This looks different than what I'm getting.
I've uploaded a new .fbx with the character mapped to a motion cap file (H_WalkTurn45R.fbx from teh Samples provided with MB 4.03. This looks to be the same .fbx that you've used in your render). (

Could you or someone else please check this out?
In my file, the characters arms are not following the skeleton. they are much more bent and upraised than in your render. There's also a strange glitch in the head movement at one point.
I'm using MB 4.03 on OSX.2.6, and I'm beginning to think that there might be a problem with Motionbuilder on this platform in this instance.
