Have fun!:)

11-25-2008, 04:39 AM

nandlaskar: All the best to you too:)

11-25-2008, 04:46 AM
I have decided to create a Wolf Steamborg. Below are the images which i gathered from net. It won't be loaded with too much heavy weapons. But It will be loaded with steam pipes and engine and may be one attached weapon.:)

All C&c's welcome.

11-25-2008, 06:42 AM
Hey Roshan,

cool concept, I'd love to see a concept sketch, but the references you're going to use are already promising:) .
Looking forward to see what you'll make of it!

Have a nice day,

11-25-2008, 01:22 PM
dawinky : Well Yeah I'll try create a rough sketch in photoshop. Maybe a side view will be easy to sketch out for a rookie like me:)

11-25-2008, 02:39 PM
A very rough concept. This is just to give a rough idea:).
and please forgive me for such a sucking concept sketch:shrug:

11-25-2008, 04:29 PM
Don't worry about the sketch, it's really perfectly fine for us to understand the concept! :) Hope to see the start of the modeling soon! For some reason, I kinda feel like there should be some steam coming out of him mouth...kinda like a wolf on a cold winter day, I don't know maybe something to try. Might be weird though because there's already steam coming out of his back... Anyway, looking forward to an update!

11-25-2008, 05:09 PM
I can't wait to see where this one goes!

11-26-2008, 05:49 AM
Hi Roshan,

hehe, I also hate to make concept sketches, but this one transports the idea really good, so don't worry:) ...
Now I'm waiting to see the start of the modeling!

11-26-2008, 01:38 PM
You guys are not alone! ;) I'm not particularly found of doing concept sketches either. But whenever these challenges come along, I give it a try anyway. I'm sure if I keep practicing, eventually I'll get good enough and come to like it! :P

Anyway, looking forward to the start of the modeling also!

11-27-2008, 03:18 PM
warpv & daWinky: Yeah its really boring to sketch out, especially for a guy like me who never practises sketching:twisted:.

Aron : Thanx Dude. Started modeling already:)

Nothing great to show. Just started fleshing out basic mesh. So its a W.I.P.:)

11-27-2008, 03:30 PM (

Okay I'm submitting both concept and WIP images again through UPLOAD IMAGE link. I forgot that I have to follow milestone images link provided by Cg talk.

11-27-2008, 03:36 PM (

12-05-2008, 08:41 AM
nicd one! model is nice , wait for big update!:)

12-05-2008, 05:47 PM
Nice work Madshooter, that model is coming along nicely. Is your wolfy robot going to be all mechanical or partly organic too?

12-08-2008, 06:29 PM
time for updates mate :bounce:

12-09-2008, 06:42 AM
Hey Roshan,

oh yes, waiting for the big update, but the last one is already a huge step forward. The shape is clear now and the model is already looking impressive:thumbsup: ! I'm also curious to see how you mix the mechanical and the organic parts...and will there be some fur?
Patiently waiting to see more and I wish you a nice day,

12-09-2008, 01:13 PM (

Started adding details to the front legs.

12-09-2008, 01:18 PM
monsitj: Hey dude. Below is not a big but decent update I guess:) Thanx.

soapy: Rightnow my plan is to make it completely mechanical. Lets see it all
depends on time:)

thebest: Hey dude so here is the update:).

daWinky: Hmmm. Actually I have some plans of showing little fur coming out of those metal gaps. But not sure how its gonna look. Thanx for replying:)

12-09-2008, 01:38 PM
yeaahhhh u are the man ....... I like what I`am seeing so far mate ..keep going

12-09-2008, 07:42 PM
Hey nice progress, I like how the feet look. This is shaping up to be one cool puppy.

12-09-2008, 07:59 PM
Looking good buddy. The moon is out ,so I'll do a Wolf cry for you.
Cheers and model on dude.

12-10-2008, 04:41 AM
Looking great so far! :) Have you tried maybe making the wolf's head a little bit seems a little small now I find...or maybe it's just me... Anyway, keep it up!

12-10-2008, 12:21 PM (

Okay started blocking out Environment composition. Well I won't be doing lot of hardwork for env. Few buildings with textures and then actual building photographs in the background. I'm planning to show after or mid war scene.

12-10-2008, 12:26 PM
thebest : Thanx Dude:)

soapy : Thanx.

SONIC-X : Hey Dude how are you. Thanx :)

warpv : Actually Head is just temporary. I have to model out all the details on his head. Maybe you are right. I'll fix it in the end if necessary. Thanx:)

12-10-2008, 02:26 PM (

Added more details on his back leg. Next step is to add littledetails on his back, Weapon and Head portion.

12-10-2008, 04:29 PM
yeah , nice update ! maybe ad some steam tube to his back !
very nice detailed model:thumbsup:

12-10-2008, 09:55 PM
The pooch is looking great. That lonely looking postindustrial warzone environment or whatever should work really well in this image.

12-11-2008, 03:56 AM
this he steampunk fadoo cocept... great work

12-11-2008, 07:26 AM
Hi Roshan,

wow, now I'm really impressed:thumbsup: , very good modeling, love all the details and you can be proud of your leg construction! Looking forward to see what you make with the head now...

Have a nice day:) ,

12-11-2008, 12:37 PM (

Well tried some new composition and Lighting as suggested by Jimmy.

12-11-2008, 12:40 PM (

Need suggestions and would like to know which one looks good as far as colors are concerned.

12-11-2008, 12:41 PM (

Color test 2.

12-11-2008, 12:46 PM
monsitj: Yeah for now I have to concentrate on other parts. But let see it's a good suggestion of adding Small steam tubes on his back or sides maybe:) Thanx for suggestion.

soapy : Hey dude thanx for postindustrial warzone environment suggestion. Let me know what you feel about the new post:)

snehalghag : Hey thanx dude:beer:

daWinky : Hey sabrina thanx for replying. Yeah now next step is back to modeling:).

12-11-2008, 01:18 PM (

I don't why I personally like this color. Please give suggestions.

12-11-2008, 01:30 PM
The color is very steampunkish. With a little bit of blue grey smoke from that pipe I think you would be set. Is it possible to taper the limbs a bit or round them out? And push those front leg joints back a bit? Even fully extended there tends to be a little bit of a bend in limbs. I think robotic teeth would be cool too. But I like the direction your heading in.

Thanks for stopping by my thread.

12-11-2008, 01:50 PM
Hey Roshan,

My pick is for the one on the right of the Comp Test 2. The orange/brown color that you like could be brought back through the wolf. I think the blues and oranges would work really well like that! Try it out, let me know how it works out!

Also, I know the background is far from over, but it's very dark at the present, maybe some accent lights in the lower part of the background to bring back out some of that detail?!

Oh, I also wanted to ask, are you going to pose him in a more organic, slightly less stiff pose for the final image?

Keep us posted!

12-11-2008, 07:57 PM
Nice work on all the new models. I like the blue colour, it feels like a moonlight scene.

The composition feels a bit closed in to me, maybe move the buildings back a little? Plus I think it would be good to have some open sky between the wolfs head and the moon to make certain that connection.

Looking great.

12-11-2008, 11:41 PM
That's one fine-looking wolf. I really like those mechanical details throughout its form. I tend to agree with soapy and warpv about the lighting - I also think the moonlit feeling of the blue lighting works well

12-12-2008, 06:33 AM (

Spaced out the whole thing a bit. Worked on light and colors.

12-12-2008, 06:35 AM (

A little more bluish tone.

12-12-2008, 06:42 AM
Hey Roshan,

can't belive what you've all done in the short time since my last look in here...that's fantastic work, you've built the perfect environment for your wolf:thumbsup: ! And I clearly prefer the more blue tinted scene, a good feeling of moonlight...So just continue like this and you're finished before Xmas:cool: ...

12-12-2008, 07:44 AM
Womball : Yup it is possible to taper the limbs, but rightnow I'm planning to move ahead. Later I'll do the geometry changes if time permits:)

warpv : Yeah I have worked on the lighting and planning to go with Bluish tone. Thanx for suggestions Dude:)

soapy : Yup I have spaced out everything.I have pushed the buildings little backside and also added some space between buildings for open space between Wolf and sky. Thanx for suggestions Dude:)

mdavid : Thanx for replying buddy. Yeah I have decided to go with bluish tone finally:)

daWinky : Actually used lot of tricks by adding alpha planes behind the geometries:) So Bluish color is my final decision also. Next is to complete the model and start with textures:).

12-12-2008, 10:17 AM
the blue is definetly the best ....looks awsome mate keep going

12-12-2008, 02:01 PM
Wow yeah, great update! The blue colors definately work very well! And the background is also much better now! What's the next step?! The head?!

12-26-2008, 11:47 AM (

Worked on Head portion. Some more teeths will be there in the final image:D.

12-26-2008, 11:51 AM
thebest: Yup Blue looks real good. Thanx:beer:

warpv : Yeah, I have completed working on head. And planning to start with composition.
I won't be texturing or unwrapping my model and scene in 3dsmax. Every thing will be done in photoshop with layering, masking and blending and some paint job on my grey shaded 3d rendered image:). Thanx dude.

12-26-2008, 03:01 PM
Hey! That's a really nice wolf model now - love all the details!
As for the coloring I find the blue one a bit to saturated, how about making a mix of the yello and the blue? Could be moonlight/ electrical light both.
The scene looks really nice too, no complaints from me :)

12-27-2008, 05:12 AM
Hey Gunilla thanx for replying:). Yeah you are right actually the one which you saw is not the final one. I'll be adding some color variations, fog ect.. in photoshop.

12-27-2008, 06:00 AM (

Started working on composition in photoshop.

12-27-2008, 06:05 AM (

This is the texture image which I over-layed on steam borgs. I got it from Cgtextures.:)

12-27-2008, 06:10 AM (

Closer view.

12-27-2008, 06:12 AM (

And here's the complete composition with some fog as separate layer, not final yet.:) I'm planning to add more metal variations on steam borg.
All C&c's welcome:)

12-27-2008, 09:26 AM (

Added some more rust on neck and head portion.

12-29-2008, 12:00 PM
Hey Roshan,

wow, this turned out awesome:applause: ! I really like the composition and the idea of making it a pack of wolves - and you've done really good work with the texture! Looks like you're almost finished:cool: !
Perhaps you can add some specular highlights to the wolves, just to define some edges?

12-29-2008, 01:16 PM (

Just added some more fog and slight glow on the main Borg's head portion.

12-29-2008, 01:20 PM
daWinky : Hey thanx Sabrina. I'm trying to show a war kind of feel. Like wolves are howling/crying before war. Yeah added some glow on the main borg to define edges.
Not yet finished still working on comp.:)

12-30-2008, 10:36 AM
i think the idea is original

i think i would add a bit more variaty to the metal, some more richness in color variation perhaps
just my 2 cents

12-30-2008, 01:16 PM (

Added little flame and then fading to smoke. Also added some particles on chest portion.
All C&c's welcome:)

12-30-2008, 01:20 PM
asela : You mean to say I should play with Color balance and Hue saturation. Or you mean to say change the complete color:sad:.
And Thanx for replying :)

12-30-2008, 04:58 PM
I think the difficulty comes from having two light sources. I'm not sure how to plot lights directly from colors. Usually I plot them in black and white/ grayscale first. So>.>.... One cool blue which is the moon, and on warm orange on the wolf's tummy. Cool light makes warm shadows. Warm lights make cool shadows, and the color of the shadow is the complementary color to the light source. o.o (blue light-orange shadow, orange light- blue shadow .... :P )
So I can't wait to see how you manage to solve that. : )

12-30-2008, 06:23 PM
Good work with the effects, the smoke is really convincing now:thumbsup: !

It's getting better and better, I'm envy to see that you've so much time left now to polish it to it's best:D ...Have you already rendered this in the final resolution?

01-01-2009, 05:22 AM (

legs portion.

01-01-2009, 05:23 AM (

Middle portion with some more work on particle fx.

01-01-2009, 05:25 AM (

Legs portion texture details.

01-01-2009, 05:31 AM
Nightlitsky : Hey thanx for replying:). Yeah actually I can change the shadow colors by rendering only shadows from max. Or maybe I can use some other method in photshop not sure.

daWinky : I'm glad you liked it:). Actually in the start I decided not to waste time unwrapping my models in max. As in the end you don't get enough time to play with your composition. So I did everything in photoshop. And yeah everthing is rendered in high resolution 3636/2657 300 dpi from max. My pc can't handle more than this:D

01-01-2009, 06:39 AM (

Would like to know which one looks good. This new one with more bluish green color or the previous one:).

01-01-2009, 06:53 PM
good wips so far!

love your litte steampunking details! :)
background work is great!

why not maximize the use of that lovely furnace in the chest? :) try adding a hint of burning glow around the joints and some around the neck! just a hint though with some white thin smoke it can look really good!

some suggestions though... you cant really see what's going on at first look. i thought it was a giant turtle... i needed to look at the wips to see what's going on. maybe zooming out and giving a more defined pose for the wolf will help.. noting that crying wolves are often portrayed in clear and defined silhouettes... also, the head is a little wierd... maybe you have to do some tweaking on the jaw... it should look movable and really ferocious! it's just me though...hope this helps! :D

01-01-2009, 09:58 PM
This is coming along nicely. great modeling and design. I like the warm and cool colors. I would like to see a stronger blue highlight on the faces to really compliment the strong bright moon. Keep up the good work.

01-05-2009, 06:31 AM
ra-gevz: Hey thanx for replying Dude. You got some good points. But I won't be changing the model for I'm quiet satisfied for how its looking now. And no enough time left for major chages:). The thing is I modeled it completely covered with metal and armour as these wolve borgs are getting ready for a war. Also storyline will make everything clear.

wildcory1 : Yeah you are right. I'll add some light on his face. Thanx for suggestion:)

01-05-2009, 08:28 AM
Very good, atmospheric work. Good luck!

01-06-2009, 07:58 AM
Hi Roshan,

I really like the last version with the blueish-green tint, also because it looks a little brighter than the previous render...I still would like to see some more specular highlights, besides I see nothing to crit, wonderful work!:applause:

01-06-2009, 02:34 PM
I think this is my final image:). I have added some industrial lights in the background. And also added specular highlights overall. Last moment suggestions welcome:).

01-06-2009, 02:37 PM
CuriousLobster : Thank you very much:)

daWinky : Thanx for replying. Yup I have added specular highlights:)

01-06-2009, 04:22 PM
cool, i love the mood and lighting :) , maybe you can add some more detail on the wolves, like more bolts or metal plates..

01-07-2009, 03:49 AM
Nice work man, amazing texture details

01-07-2009, 10:50 AM
Perfect, the high res is very impressive, I'd say you've made crits from me:thumbsup: !

Good luck with the upload and of course with the judges:cool:

Okay this is my final image.

daWinky : Thanx a lot Sabrina. Your suggestion of adding specular highlights worked very nicely:)

mdavid : Thanx Dude for all the support throughout challenge:)

01-08-2009, 02:00 PM
Hey Roshan! Great final image! The atmosphere is dead on! :) I also really love the pose of the wolf, with the giant moon in the background! I can almost hear him howling! ;)

01-09-2009, 11:18 AM
warpv :Thank you very much Dude.:) Hey and he is crying:D

01-12-2009, 07:21 AM

Gunilla : Thank you very much:)

thebest : Thanx dude:beer:

MartinNielsen : Yeah actually not able to take a decision:D. I'm in the middle of a project. If I get time then I have some plans of improving it by adding flames in the background and some vapor fx. Thanx Dude:)

01-13-2009, 04:47 AM
Above is a small update. Just made the Sky little more sharp and bright:).
