so here some fast sketch I did for me logo

and also I just achieved the style of my story and how it goes in general aspects, I will going for a more fantasy-realistic theme this time instead of my routine stylized look of works! allthe way this time we're speakin about STEAMPUNKS!

Welcome and good luck man! I love seeing realistic steampunk stuff but after looking at your portfolio I'm a bit disappointed your not doing stylized hehe I love your wacky imagination!!!

I have some more idea for it but I won't spent alot time on it since I have parallel production goes inside the challenge too (something funny is that they have exactly same deadlines!!)

I just completed interior gears of logo shield thingy!
I have a nice shot with this shield on that,
as you see the shield will open
under that circle glass on up-left is a gyroscope, blah blah ...
Next (for this shield) I'll make the ditails for wings and material and rigs for gears etc btw no for now,

I had a real messy day all in traffic and bureaucracies! so I just tried to sketch the idea for the character "Artaban" in taxi on my sketch book pro!!
ok and I developed my story and did some story boards also

"Artaban" is an old original Persian name means the truth patron (ie truth shield/protector man)

here is "Artaban" model in progress so
It have alot work to do, model, UW, preparing for ZB, zBrushing, N-Mapping on zBrush (I didn't do it befor!), texture-painting, getting back it from ZB to Max, Riging it, and all done then!
I think it's enough 3-4 days for it if all goes well.

Hey mim,

I will get in touch with you. As for the model, looks good, I would like to see it stick more to the concept, in terms of the arms. I think they're a little too thin in comparison to the concept, I know you don't want to spend to much time on things like that, but I think it would help and wouldn't take long to remedy. Keep it going!!!:)

I'm again on this today!
it's a hard challenge for me thought to deliver tow project with same (exactly same!) deadlines for itself!
and this challenge with alot talented ppl here getting harder and harder also!! Damn man!!!
But I don't gave up! (right now I mean atleast!!) but...

Anyway, the character UW takes 5-6 hours since I just get some errors on the ZB first time and I had to reUW them again that was a pain somehow in somewhere! you know!
anyway next I will go for my first experience on ZB ever! so wish me luck, although I'm familiar with normal-map enough in max and alil experienced on that and I hope just ZB was better on this coz max rilly sux on it (a complex bug-full nonsense workflow that I'm really skilled on!)

I saw the HUUUUUGE mesh-unwrap you posted there...and thought...:eek: that will take forever to paint! Then felt better when I read you were doing it in Zbrush. That'll make it much easier! Good luck with ZB! (never really used it myself either)

I got some HAAAAARSH geo errors again! it's really different how they behave geometries in max and ZB thought (specially with N-Maps)! something would work in max won't in ZB and viceversa!
and what is really annoying is that I have to model it again in the way ZB would like and then ... YEAH! UuuuW AGAIN! B-sh**!
BY THE WAY! It's not a bad thing all in all! as myself, I always challenging meself to get more knowledge and develop my abilities, so it's not a problem then anymore, it's a success! yo know! coz I know what would make problem in the max/zb workflow from now on! (I think so! Ok! I hope so! )

Tyson, thank you really! yess actually it's going to be longer I think for getting rid of what I'm handling with right now!! I hope it works atleast! really dunno if it won't be a "Huuuuuge" surprise for mental-ray also!! I hope so not to! I hope so!

Btw just kidding! these things are common in all projects specially when you going to experience something new! so I expect these things! and I'm working to solve it, see ya next so!!!

Just more detailing!
Steam shoe of Artaban!
he has a normal shoe for his right foot and Steam Shoe for the left one, just viceversa with his hands!

more will come, z-brushing is a slow process thought and will take alot time (for whole the cycle to be complete, modeling, sculpting, n-mapping, painting, baking, transferring to animating software, etc, and add alot troubleshooting to it also!) but I like to make a quality work and it's the cost thought! ;)

Great to see the same unique style back in another challenge.

The style is very fun and i hope you will be able to put the same feeling of your artwork into this video. I will be waiting to see this.

Although it seems you really are looking forward to all the bug and probs and misery and headaches and crashes and don't forget the heaps of caffeine you are expecting. Luckily i already discovered some probs in my workflow so i can calculate this nicely. But every new challenge is a new bucket of problems right.

as a side note, I really like to know how ppl "really" think about my works! I mean honestly! I'm sure many would did not like some styles and other ones would! but ppl just prefer to be kind to each other that is a real good thing and make a huge energy of motivation but didn't help the author to be aware of other ones look!

it would help me calculate and make improvements

Really nice sense of designing here!

Your sculpting made that lowpoly stuff to live. The shoe is my favourite part of it. What about the head of this character?

very great looking rock man. I need to do some rock modeling soon and still not exactly sure how to do it. Do you use some custom alpha's ore some sort of standard zbrush brush? So curious to know.

Nothingness- Hey Nico, tnx, yeah I used both custom alphas and default brushes and also that cell alpha thought! almost I used allthings I found there! Btw I model it first in max and just detailed in zb, the result wasn't what I were lookin for exactly but I had to keep the time limits respected! so the workflow for me were this: model the silhouette and whole geo in max, then detailing with some hard textures in ZB and baking nm back to max, hope it helps man, can't wait just to see your work man, goodluck ;) :thumbsup:

i was just staring at the sketch of the flying island boat while eating some sparerips and cinnamon crackers, and i thought about the large rotor. I feel like the large rotor makes everything look smaller, because of its simple design. I ofcourse dont know how tight you'll stick to the sketch, but since you want honest opinions :wavey: i'd share my thoughts. Seems to me that the whole free floating Rotor loosly strapped to an island/rock is not 100% thought through. Like why would the rotor not just fly wildly around? since there is no stabalizing scales/weights/extra rotors to keep it steady.

the rock is cool. very graphical ´shape. I like that hehee.

here I did another Idea for connecting rotar to island, (infact it's not a new idea, I just made a so similar island some years ago (thought my first 3D works!) on threedy forums I have no Idea where is it now!)
as I said, I did alot sketch for the island you can see some in the right hand

I will test both feeling of em and select one atlast, not too much time for it thought btw, have to take a quick select! :D
as there is no gravity in my space I thnk those ropes will work also, but have to try other ideas

Lemog- Hey Laurent, tnx man, as about the island, you're right, I didn't work on that part much coz it will hided on a metal shield I draw on my conce sketch; and about zbrush, it has a slow workflow for production though but really worth it! I think I will be better for my second attempt on it but as my first attempt I think my experience with sculpting in childhoods helps me alot!! it's really similar Laurant! I like this software as much as I hate it!! good thing over all and I think the future is for Pixologic now!

(I just see the title bar and no text field, post button etc! :/ thought an issue with CGS is!) btw I'm really glad you like em buddy, as your crit I really appreciate it man and really happy to get it from you; as the bigger rotor seems like a good idea I see it also when I just modeling them, have to try it and will show the rsult, and as the rotar stablity and it's connection with island I wonna get a feel of fantasy world but dunno if achieved that, infact there is no gravity there and the rotar blades rotate really slow (not in that dimensions btw!), here is tow steam exhaust in sides of rotar also make it more stable, ah! and I feel like need some crackers also btw!! I did some other concepts if they work; tnx again

hey nice sketches to the side. number 2 from the bottom is amazing. ITs seems a bit more plausible with the many wires.
But as you say, you got steam exhausts in the side to stabalize. And crackers? what is that? :hmm:

I like your project, and you go about it in a cool way. I love variations within one concept (refering to the many similar drawings in the side of your latest concept sketch)

HA and the steamball smokepod in the middle is funny. hehehe. that would be fitting for smaller vehicles.

Hi, here is the Artaban head detailed,
I did another version after this one, alil better; but ZB crashes and all 4-5 h work lost, so I back to it, although I'm not happy with some parts but it's not available undo them anyway and no more time to assign to it, so will go with this is just choice!


Lemog, Yea! tnx! all the way dunno why! but I always like low-poly characters form really! probably because of my background with sooooo slow systems!! btw hope u like it too! :)

andreasng, Tnx buddy, as about helmet I inspired by other work (that I liked the form of visors also alot!) and tnx about other parts too, hope u like the new version also, :D

PS: unfortunately I have some trouble posting in CGS threads, dunno why but guess is for servers traffic, anyway I'm really sorry I can't comment on other threads atm, I see the images attached in a bad way also! and just hope it fix by soon, :)

Yeah the more detailed design is great as well. I am sucker for more low detailed flat designs like in teamfortress 2, as your first head picture suggested. But its cool the new one as well.

it's really cool! thought looks like we both think alike! I really like those low-poly "arts" indeed as I mentioned also, even more than high details! btw I have to keep the work style respected and unique in whole of that (I have the vision in my head for the final work and following that,) btw I'm a TF2 style lover also! (hadn't any chance to play it sofar though!)

as for the helmet, here I upload the reference image I inspired from; it's a BIG shame but I can't remember the authors name atall! :( but as I know the left image is a work by artist who inspired from the other artist you'll see his work in right, in fact he made the colored version of other artist work and included his work in this image also you can see (it's a while they sit on my desktop BG!), and now I made the 3D version though!! ofcourse just the helmet! (and not as cool as the main one! then!)
I think both of their works are awesome and I apologize for their names I cant remember atm :(

PS: Although I remember I see some similar helmets in past also, all in all I got the idea from this picture. :D

here I formed the cobblestones, now texturing em and etc, thought to make it ready for render (semi-final tonight)

Btw, are anyone else, experienced problems with forums nowadays or it's just me?! I can't see the images correctly and can't reply to posts often, I'm really worry about this! I will try to test with some other systems by soon;

and also I had another bad problem also with my monitors calibration today took me "sooo" times to get fixed (if it got!)! and now I'm not sure yet if it's ok and others will see what I see here as same!!

Ok! I have GOOD news!
so we can continue with a Powerful team from so on for this challenge and this is a great news coz we can just develop the work more and make it as great as we can all! now we have sooo more abilities and time btw;
but let us to get form then we will go with full power ahead!
just for yo know, new team mates are all cool guys with awesome works all talented in their professions, so we are about 4 or 5 by now but it's not fix yet, we will figure all the work flow and schedules in 3 or 4 days, and then team work will start "seriously"! we have all passion to start our work! :D

here is my quick concept for our next character (the new one); his name would be "Sohrab" but will decide soon as we just confirm the story again;

Hey, :D

here is the "Rough Primary" Animatic we have to clear things in how the teaser will advance, I uploaded it on DeviantArt servers coz it's not possible here uploading an swf and it's alot easier to watch (it's like 2 meg but the flv is 17 meg! and I dunno how to upload an flv even tho!)

Btw in other side, Fausto remade the Artaban (ie Rostam) and it looks even more cool now, And John are UWing it right now, Fausto is on other character now tho (ie sohrab), he is really fast man!
their wips will come as soon as we got their logos beside em, it was an cool idea by JD
And our great rigger, Yuri is done a rig for Artaban by now tho!

ok, here is the Damavand sketch I did to test some atmospheres, no need to say I'm not a matte-painter! but since we havn't one in team yet I have to try it, I hope one of my friends will accept the job, or the other one!!

btw it's just a simple overall schedule and each member have to have one more detailed for himself, we will give each team member his deadline and his job so he can have a time table for his own;

this is fantastic Mr. Fausto! Wow. I love almost everything about this character. The bulgy legs, the helmet ( :thumbsup: ) the design. the proportions. I'm not so much into the chimney though. But it fits the character perfectly. I got nothing to say. COol man

No soucy mate... often, it's harder to manage a real team... with many different skills, visions and ideas... but it's also a good and important school for everybody.
In my case... you know I'm here only for the pleasure... and I'll never work in a real studio... too late for me... but I'm always very ready to take pleasure and share works in these challenges.
We have always much to learn... you... me... everybody :scream:

Harmonic color pallete

Ok, I?m back again after a week I was sick! I got cold but it?s ok tho now,
I had two choices for the mood of final work in my mind, one with desaturated colors and dark style and other in a colorful style and dark yet! So I choosed finally me decision, I think the colorful style will work better in this challenge with more personality! I created a harmony pallet afew weeks ago as the start point but we will have one for each sequence, anyway it is here,
I?ll use the colors as signs, a tool that helps to transferring the idea behind the story, and helps to improve the story telling style so; btw in harmony yet,

Team is going also, maybe alil slow but on time yet, we have both models completed btw waiting for first rig yet to start animating process, Damavand shot bg matte painting is almost ready, and the jail in final shot is In progress, of modeling, particle works and fume fx is in development and we got some cool result sofar, ?

shot 01, it's almost ready, some minor works like adding particles and the water material tho, but the render will be done at the scheduled time;
I will do the same thing for all shots to speed up the team by clearing things more; I'm trying to create some motion sketch also for animators in first chance btw have to work on fume fx and particles yet and we have some other models to make yet, ok looks like good btw, all thing is moving ahead, we have just to speed it up ;)

Hey Laurent, thanko man, I have to just learn alot master, btw will try our best to create a good feeling by colorful scenes! tho it's alil hard to tell a serious (and even a tragedy that is our story!) workin with pour colors, but it will help the story line if we can use it in correct way; wanna achieve it anyway;D

tnx, definitely thats right, but since it's not a time consuming step (I did whole the sculpting in zb just in less than tow of hours), and because of great time saving it will make in texture painting (coz we have a shaded template then) and also with visual improvments it make, I think it worth the cost;
in other hand, it's something judjes will consider about for sure, so these details will be seen in model show turn tables althought not toomuch visible in main work;

we can't finish it as scheduled anymore; it's not available for deadline sure;
but whole the team will continue working to finish it (by less time pressure)
by now rigs going to be finished atlast tho;

I really appreciate all the supports and kindness from yo all in this thread;
and I "officially" apologize you and all my team mates for my failures and my miss-directings makes it impossible delivering it onetime; :( although I did my best to make it possible but seems it happened coz my lack of experience working with a "not local" team; all in all it was most my failure and I really apologize for it and dunno how really appreciate all the efforts and stress and pressure my friends on team accepted but didn't got the result, I just can saying "Sorry, sorry, I'm really sorry" :(

after all we hope to finish it although after deadline and we are reorganizing right now to do it, I spoke with all teammates, and they all like to finish it also even not for this contest, so we will continue and probably sharing our progress here yet, ;)

it premise to be very good with high level quality... that will be a shame to doesn't finish it...
