Hey guys ;),

Well, i have to put all my ideas together, and check if everything is coherent. ^^

I will post the script this weekend, with first concepts sketchs.

My theme will based on the 50's flying courrier, wich had to fly carefully over the Himalaya to bring mail. Exept that here, they do it by land, with a big "evil-legged-steam-powered" machine .

Nothing really inspire me in the myth and legend approach, so i go more on the historical side... but my machine will be called "behemoth", and will have some reference aspect of the legendary beast (well...means that it will be a huge one :D )

I will only do a trailer-like animation, of 30s (i wanna finish this time ^^) i don't have to develop the story too much... :)

First shot on the yeti head, i'm going for a cartoon approach, so i will not enter too much into details. This guy will be half wood, half iron, with some painted part to make him white

It looks nice! And in my opinion a good design don't have to be complicated... remember the giant robot in Pixar's movie The Incredibles: it's just a sphere!
So it's a good thing, because it works well!

I wanna keep my shedule the most i could, so i don't planned to past more than two more week on modeling texturing stuff...

Anyway, i think i haven't talk about the story yet...I've change it a lot since my first post :blush:
Well, as you can see, i've forget the behemoth myth for the yeti one.... Should be drunk or something when i've think about himalaya, myth and legend... and haven't think about yeti... :banghead:

SO here is the pitch (in a love letter format) :

Dear anna

Here, in the Himalaya mountains, near the everest mount, there is a pic full of mysteries..The Ceegee mount (ok, no inspiration for names :rolleyes: )..Some people tell this place is haunted, other say there is a huge monster who keep the pic and kill everyone who came on his territory.
Someone have also find some huge and strange footprint in the snow...

But for me, it's fake, nothing with that's size can live there, it's too cold...i can't believe somthing like this. I need to know...
Tomorrow, me and few alpinist friends, we will go and climb this mountain to the top, and we will be the first ones to proove that's there is nothing strange on it.
Don't worry, you know i'm the best, i will be famous after that, and maybe you will reconsider my proposition...

I love you


This was the last letter of Sarge Portrovski, dead on the Ceegee mount, after a fall of 300 meters on the east side of the mountain.

Nothing steampunk here, but hehe....i keep it for the ending. The only thing i can tell, that's it's a fun a violent one ;)
The animation will be a trailer of 30 or 40 sec

Well, i get back to work now ^^

head/chest almost complete...Just have to add some tubes and cables on the neck.

Argl, have been busy these days, so i haven't progress a lot on it, damn, only 68 days left ^^

Anyway, here is an update (i need to post more regulary to keep a good rythm).

I've put a orange light inside him to simulate the fire from the combustion chamber. Have few cool idea to bring life to that thing wich will need this light :]


Elendil > Thx Elendil, i hope it is, my main source of inspiration is the Wallace & Gromit machinery style :bowdown:

the plating looks great, and the lighting from within the hull of the robot is a cool choice. Will you keep it there? nice design!:)

But i will maybe have to add few more details to clarify the reference of the yeti, but it's an undefined creature, (siemiesque, hairy, with big foots)..I will probably put some "steel fur" over some other part, and will have to do something special for feets, to explain the footprints.

alvin-cgi & andreasng SLimmy>thx mates, yup the blue lighting is not def, but it represent the overall mood i want on the yeti shots, so i find usefull to already put it, to see where i need to put details, or where it's useless. As i'm not too much into modeling, i find that usefull ^^
And yup for the inside orange light, that's the idea from start, the warm/cold contrast should be interesting i think

I love the details of the head: the eye closer mechanism, the door on its nape... cool.
and also a good start for lighting. keep it up!
I'm curious about how you will make the mountains. We will also have them in the bg, but still don't know the best way to create them.

Yup kynu, mountains will be the next problem, i think i will make few good props of rock and one or two specific environnement (i need a specific one for the meeting of the 3 explorer and the yeti...), everything else will be on matte, almost 2d mattes i guess, 3d ones if i have time or if needed... That's my guidlines for mountains, but never do something similar, so can't tell yet if it's the best idea ^^

hey Goul nice work so far! I love the way the yeti design is going! You somehow managed to merge your style (avatar) with this whole steampunk theme! Good work!

I also found the chronogram chart very informative and viable, you stick to it and we will have a dam good animation with lots of style fiting the deadline perfectly!

Almost complete, need some extra detailing. But i think i'm late enough, so i'm starting the mapping/texturing step now

No problem man!

now i see the whole thing, i am almost sure you modeled it in this position. When i look at the knees, then the heels and then the wrists, i can see you won't be able to bend them much. At least without poly's intersecting each other.
With my star wars walker i also tried to be very flexible but it's when i rigged it i found out the feet were not flexible enough for animation. But then it's too late. I always turn to paper and pencil for these connection to make sure you have enough movement freedom.

for example, he won't really be able to stretch the leg and walking won't be very easy then. And with the wrists he won't even be able to scratch his ass.

The downs legs have already a piston wich can scale the leg a little bit, but nothing here explain how they can rotate/walks...will add some mechanisms and pistons, but it will be small ones, i don't want to break the overall dispropotionned proportions ;)

Lemog>Yeah, get a Yeti look is hard on a robot because this monster is based on fur :D , i should maybe remake the head to make it look more like a monkey one...Will have to choose between something more understandable and my first design...:argh:
I think the environnement and the context will clarify everything in the final animation though :)

Nothingness>Hmm, every articulations on the leg are sphere based, i'm able to rotate them at least up to 120° each without any problems,i've for sure poly intersecting, but theses are hided like on the knee with that's sort of protection on it ;)
I need to check if it works fine though...
For sure, it will not have the mobility of a classic character, but it's a robot after all ;)
But for the stretching problem, and for the wrist, you're totaly right, will have to fixed that before encounter big problems on the animation.
I think i will rig it before going further onthe mapping/texturing, this way, i will loose less time and avoid future technical problems
