11 November 2008, 04:27 PM
I absolutly love it! Bible classes would be way more interesting with an ark like that one!

11 November 2008, 10:25 PM
I love the concept. Very innovative.

11 November 2008, 08:01 AM
very nice concept!!

11 November 2008, 08:11 AM
I like your sketch of your steam boat, mostly the big cogwheels. :)

11 November 2008, 08:12 AM
Cool concept! Real mighty! Would be cool with some mech birds and fishes.

11 November 2008, 09:38 AM

I just have to say this...

I LOVE your avatar.

Apart from that, good luck with the contest! I could see hundreds of steampunk guinea pigs running inside the huge cogs to make the ship move, but that's just me (and it's not very in accordance with the original myth of course).

11 November 2008, 03:29 PM
Nice start - Best wishes. I would like to see this flipped horizontal, the left side may be a bit crowded, flipping it may give the eye a bit more room entering the image from left to right. I really like how you are combining the brass and iron/steel. I'm looking forward to the progression.

11 November 2008, 03:37 PM
That's huge. What document dimensions/Dpi are you working at for painting this?

11 November 2008, 03:48 PM
i'm work on 5976 X 3000 pix in 300dpi

11 November 2008, 04:06 PM
I am liking this! Cool concept, good composition and colors! Good luck!

11 November 2008, 05:59 PM
Looking so forward to your end result that I subscribed to this one. Best of luck in the competition.

11 November 2008, 11:01 PM
Nice idea and sketches an the colouring is looking great already.

The entrance to the ark seems to be lost under the paddle wheels in the sketches though. Did you consider making the entrance in the front of the ark, like a drive-on ferry?

11 November 2008, 03:54 AM
Love the ark, Bittler. It's looking really great.

11 November 2008, 04:14 AM
Yeah! It's beautifull! honestly you have a really good technique! Just one thing, it's not forbidden to make it about politics or religion ? i think it's on the rules.

Peace :)

11 November 2008, 04:22 AM
Its looking really good, i love the ship, looking forward to your final peice, good luck!

11 November 2008, 04:38 AM

11 November 2008, 10:28 AM
Hi, i started my illustration with Noé ARK theme , yes it's a story in holy bible but i not
drawing a religious représentation ( cross or more things ) I like the simply scenery of this story ...but i want to know if i'm in a badway...
sorry for my english :-/

11 November 2008, 09:11 PM
pretty intense!

11 November 2008, 04:29 PM
Amazing rendering you have displayed. Thanks for posting your process as well.

11 November 2008, 05:15 PM
That's a cool concept! And you have some really good references!
The shading looks good! Almost like a 3D rendering.

Did you do a color key for the final image? I'm just curious about your workflow.
Cause you're rendering every object one after another. If I'd work like that I would
loose track of the lighting situation and overall mood.
I usually do a rough color layout first. If you haven't done it I would suggest to do that
because otherwise it can happen that you get it trouble in creating the right mood.

11 November 2008, 04:49 PM (

to be continued...

11 November 2008, 05:52 PM
Eh ben c`est cool ca :buttrock:

You got really impressive rendering skills! Great work!

11 November 2008, 09:31 AM
I really like this one. The level of detail is great. There does seem to be a problem with the perspective on the wheels though.

11 November 2008, 12:11 PM
Hi Bittler!

You have found extremely nice resources! Thanks for publishing those. I'm total newbie what comes to engineering and steampunk style - I have to say I'm going to check those over and over again. I like your concept and how you render your machine. Well done :)

11 November 2008, 06:59 PM (

i add later multiple birds...

11 November 2008, 08:18 PM
Weeee! Incredible concept and mood!! Little space for the animals perhaps... (not in the ship, in the bottom of the picture :D)

11 November 2008, 08:44 PM
Why do you cut the top of the ship??..Good concept

12 December 2008, 06:38 PM
This gives a new meaning to the word "steamboat". Very nice. Btw, it would be cool if there are some other steam related characters or vehicles in the scene.

12 December 2008, 01:39 PM
Great. The gadgets are very beautiful.

I love the Brass details, this is definitely top notch. Have you maybe considered a lightning effect in the back? I mean to give it some light on the right....just a thought. I like how the machinery looks so real. Keep it up!

12 December 2008, 05:41 PM
Great detaling :arteest:

12 December 2008, 08:35 PM

Beatiful work man. The attention to details and lighting is amazing .

12 December 2008, 03:08 PM (

animals and robsteam

12 December 2008, 03:32 PM
Beautiful details.

Just one thing that has been on my mind since near the beginning of this - just an idea - shouldn't the animals be real to contrast the technology that is trying to save them?

Might sound like heresy. This is a fantastic piece.

12 December 2008, 04:23 PM
Hi bernardI like a lot your entry. Amazing details, and the color palette is great.
I agree with Roger about the animals.
Good luck dude.

12 December 2008, 06:15 PM
I love the lights on the robot's hands, the detail is just so insane!!! although the robot somehow reminded me of the Battledroids on Star Wars Episodes 1-3, maybe I am just reading too much into it.....still the piece gains more and more as time goes by

12 December 2008, 02:33 PM (

the elephants

12 December 2008, 04:27 PM
really like this idea, its working just right with the technique & every thing.

12 December 2008, 09:09 PM
Those elephants are beautifully painted. Well; what can I say after that. :)

12 December 2008, 10:11 PM
Suuuuper bernard ! Toujours aussi rapide !

12 December 2008, 12:09 AM
That metal shading looks so good :)

12 December 2008, 12:14 AM
man, this is coming along so well

12 December 2008, 04:41 AM
Amazing concept! And I love how you have planned the animals design. Keep it up!

12 December 2008, 04:55 PM
I love the ship design. I too agree about the animals being realistic instead of mechanic. Would be a good contrast to the technology of ship.

12 December 2008, 07:45 PM
i like your elephants and the idea about noahs arch... good work

i hope you will bi finished at time, so many animals to do ...:)

Greetings schoscho

12 December 2008, 04:37 PM (

Merry christmas all... and tks for your support

12 December 2008, 05:03 PM
Incredible details, and also excellent composition, congrats...

12 December 2008, 06:06 PM
I really like this Bernard!

It has a timeless, always-been-there kind of quality that the best images have.

Could you expand on your painting techniques. Do you use custom brushes for the rivets, for example. I'm most impressed how you have maintained the style throughout.

You should have a go at the Surreal competition. :)

12 December 2008, 08:38 PM
Good piece of work. Keep going!

12 December 2008, 09:56 PM
Hi Bittler,
Great detail and amazing, everything was done really well the onlything i have to say not really ok is the perspective,

your ship is giant...... the lower part from the ship is still ok, but if you look the upper part from ship is absolutly wrong if i compare with the neck from giraffe the position of the roof from your ship is much higher, but now seem to be the roof same high like the neck of giraffe (in horizont camera).

:beer:but just tell me my eyes is wrong or ignor my opinion if i am wrong. best

Just my opinion! Other than that is VERY NICE WORK!

01 January 2009, 03:09 PM
Gorgeous work, Bernard.

It has a real coherence of style, with lovely colouring.

Good luck; this is one of the contenders for sure.

01 January 2009, 05:19 PM
Wonderful final. Good luck :)

01 January 2009, 08:49 PM
congratulations Bernard on finishing. Good luck!

01 January 2009, 09:32 PM
You have achieved a highly refined level of finish. Your composition is well designed to not only show the massive steam punk ark, but to also show the characters as well as the environment and yet retain interest by the use of your viewing angle. You may want to push the atmospherics a bit more to push the background back a little. This will create some additional depth to your image. It's a strong piece for sure. Best of luck to you!
