Once again I`m enjoing to take part in a cgtalk challenge :) so here we go:

The Baron`s Eye
---------------

The Baron is invincible, he predicts every battle, he guesses every move of his ennemies and he strikes always on into the weakest point of their armies.
How did he does that? Because he detains the Eye, which fly above mountains and armies, which sees everything.
The Eye is the key of his power.

Well this is a start, hope to correct any english mistakes when delivering the final image.
I will try to create the Baron`s room where he plans his battles and observes his ennemies. of course i will show a big battle in the Eye. I`m not sure I will have the time to model the Baron himself but why not...

Just few tweaks, I don`t like the ring around the orb, need to change it...

Finally something more devlopped :) and this will evolve with all the Baron`s cabin interior.
Stay tuned.

C&C warmly welcomed.

I have never heard of this legend-I'm learning :D Can't wait to see more. Maybe more wires and stuff, since steampunk is gears and...I dunno, hah, I just like this very much.

Nomad
11 November 2008, 03:22 PM
Lappisch - Thx for your comment ...well I should mistake a legend from somewhere and made some "changes" here and there :D Don`t worry about gears and steam, they will be there too :deal:

Some work on the iron elements, I will now start to work on the wood ones to build the whole interior of the Baron`s ship.

huhuhu... you're too strong... again here !

Like this concept even if for the moment I don't make exactly the good link between concept and the legend... but I know you well... that will be great... and I already like how it started...
...certainly an another great thread to follow...

I keep my eyes here my friend, and I especially wish you all the best for the next steps... go Maciej

So this is how the Baron gets a leg up on the Ace Snoopy eh?! Looks like we'll have to shatter that crystal! lol, nice job on the modeling, keep those updates coming :D

Thx, I`m just curious if it`s allowed to create his own legend, I don`t read it anywhere... :lightbulb

Lemog
11 November 2008, 08:53 PM
I'm not totally sure... I don't read something precise... but I saw a couple of guys change theirs theme for something as real legend or myth...

maye you can ask anyway... that's will be sad if you work more for nothing...
any change to adapt your concept ?
don't know... a story of god controlling things on earth... with the machines you create !

Nomad
11 November 2008, 11:12 AM
Well it looks like I toally messed up the goal of the challenge :argh:

But I have an idea to refocus on a real legend and not one writen by me: it will be based on the King Artur medieval legends. Because of some time lost I will reuse my objects to create a new scene where the king will be sitting on his trone, everything made in the steampunk design should look nice. Stay tuned.

Lemog
11 November 2008, 05:13 PM
Yes... that seem a good solution Maciej... let's go then

So this is my new idea, I imagine a big sword on the background. A kind of cover for a book or a movie poster :)
I have recycled my crystal globe and I will rework the env around the King.

Some more details.. I made the throne with iron elements. Next will come the chamber with more devlopped elements and finally the statue of the King as I want to create it in bronze.

A small cavity dirt test to make some areas dirt and matte. I just used an ambient occlusion as a mask to obtain that.

hi man , nice to see you ,
concept and wip look great so far , but I think the glow ball a bit too big or the king too small ,maybe you will find the dramatic camera angle,
good luck

Lemog
12 December 2008, 11:12 AM
I'm ok with Monsit though... a better angle of cam will make much to your scene...
...but I know it's only the beginning... I've confidence :wavey:

Nomad
12 December 2008, 04:32 PM
Monsit - thanks, I will work with the proportions however it`s not the king the most importent here... it`s the sword. But I still don`t know how to show it correctly, probably on the background as a big element...

Laurent, yes all is WIP, I just like this camea angle... and all depends of what will be on the background... behind the columns... but how to not occur too much background with the columns :banghead: and keep them big and massive?

Stay tuned :scream:

I think I will go that way.. a balcony with a view on the Arthur`s lands (and zeppelins). Well I still thinking about how to put alot of symbols without overloading the image...

Hello long time since I have actually posted on this forum. I like your pedestals and the globes, but for some reason I think the camera needs some adjusting to make it look not so miniture to me. I know you are have some ideas of what you are going to do for the rest so I will leave my commits at that :) Good luck!

orcun - thx, yes I like the wya it goes but I still don`t know for what purpose the globes serves :D certainly as giant light bulbs hahah

Artisan-Hawks - Thanks, yes the camera angle have to be changed.. it`s also not dramatic and dynamic so I have to work on it...

Lemog - Yes, I will have to find a way to hide them, I`m thinking to cut them at 1/3 high by a layer of steam. As it will be a "book cover" it not must be a realistic one image but some collages of many (think movie posters)

Looking good Nomad. Very nice models I also like those earlier tube amp looking devices.

You will want to check the scaling of your textures, I believe that is mostly what is causing the miniature effect not so much the camera angle.

interesting genesis... do you already have a precise idea about the balloon design ?

A difficult choice...
left: I can show a battle on the ground.
right: I can show less but the image is more dramatic.

Or should we be pleasantly surprised and wait patiently?

Lemog - yes, thats much better and as it`s threedee it can be corrected forever, ever, forever.... :D

I agree with my previous posters. Lower camera makes the pic more concentrated on person and the whole scene looks more impressive. I can feel the big scale of this chamber.

Keep up the good work!

12 December 2008, 11:31 PM
yeah, Now this is what I call something huge :D I think you are close to ideal with your camera, now the main problem to finish the mood and nice feel of the image is more dramatic lighting. It's too static now I think
I'm counting you will push it up to the end, good luck!

Nomad
12 December 2008, 03:41 PM
Ferx - thx, glad you like the whole project

arturro - thanks, certainly the light have to be reviewed... I will set up a new one soon.

I now have a base for my image, a strong storytelling I hope. The key moment will be the creation of the knights of the round table where the king will designate them with his sword. The idea behind is that they will be air commanders of hudge zeppelins so they will wear a more leather based armor.

Just hope to finish on time all this hudge stuff :banghead:

Just a start on the hudge zeppelin. I designed it differently... with metal plates all around the soft baloon. This kind of cage protects mostly of any ennemy fire.
I will add pipes running all around and some weaponnery of course :)

12 December 2008, 04:36 PM
Great details. You maybe mentionned it but does the zeppelin represent something about the legend of excalibur or is it just to illustrate the world around and finally have nothing with story-telling but just an illustrativer element of your picture to make it more steampunk ?

Promising anyway

I think the camera angle is alot better now, and I like the idea of a complex scene being seen through the windows. The blimp is looking ace!
