OK, I was close from not doing this challenge... you know, work work work...
BUT, fate wanted id to be different way..
Now, let me introduce a great Team to compete in steampunk challenge!
Together with Levus (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?userid=272586), we create the best duet since Starsky & Hutch, better than Rambo and the pain, more powerful than Luke and the force
Seriously now, we just want to make something fun and as pro as possible for this challenge. To follow duets' plot, our myth shall be widely known "Daedalus and Icarus". Well, at least some of you may think to know it... we'll see
Stay tuned, first milestones are being prepared, animatik is undergoing...

12 December 2008, 08:02 AM
The concept design is very concidered, I hope you can translate all that across to the 3d work. Great thread.
12 December 2008, 10:02 AM
Thanks guys for your interest. I'm workin' workin' workin' on our animatik. Version Beta was done a few days ago, but we decided not to show it, as it needs some refining.
I hope I will upload our animatik in around 12 hours, so stay tuned ;)
12 December 2008, 02:54 PM
Software: 3ds max,After Effects
Yap... it's done ! a bit chaotic in some places, but we decided not to waste more time on it... some very final tweaks will be done later when some animated details will be ready.
Next to go -> animated wings :)

Very nice animatik and great designs! Best to you!
12 December 2008, 09:15 PM
I've just realized that I've uploaded the wrong file, there was a big error after changing day into night (shot was too quick).
Sorry for confusion, this is our final animatik. Still far from being perfect, but as a base for our short animation it should be enough.

12 December 2008, 12:27 PM
artooro well done! I don't worry obout animation now. To be honest i didn't expexted that it will be so good. Thought it will be rather few skeleton and boxes moving around the scene to show main conception. Still, there is a lot of work to make it look natural on final animation. Levus are You going to model all the characters and enviro?
12 December 2008, 12:49 PM
Heh, looks good arturro; looking forward to seeing this flesh out and all :D And I love the ending; cute little worm :P
12 December 2008, 12:52 PM
Thanks for kind words, action itself is not a problem as I found out.. making good shots, smooth but not boring camera moves is a hard thing as well. We were improving it quite long, but there need to be a moment to go further.
In fact shots must be made on real action. Now, something may look to slow or too quick, but if instead of rigid biped there would was facial animation, it would look completeley different. Time spend on improvements of those shots thouhj was not wasted, we have a great starting point for final takes.
As our cooperation is concerned it works like that:
story - master L. + master A. + many emptied bottles of beer :)
concepts - master L. with little feedback of master A. and a lot of trust and blessing
modelling - master L. with little feedback of master A. in tearms of further animating stuff
texturing - master L. with full trust and blessing from master A.
shading and lighting - both masters together I think, it is not clear now, base lighting is done in animatik, but for sure it must be changed / improved for final takes. Making shaders though would be rather master's L. stuff
animatik - master A. with strong feedback from master L.
animation - master A. with fair feedback from master L.
art directing - both masters + mentioned bottles :)
vfx - not decided yet, probably master L.
compositing and editing - not decided yet, probably master A.
I think master Levus will agree, shoud he not, I will immidietaly make some corrections :)
stay tuned guys!
12 December 2008, 01:04 PM
I agree, thank you master A.
12 December 2008, 03:52 PM
And here is some third dimension... model of wings. Not bad master L., not bad indeed :)
next to come from master L. -> steampunk earthwormie
next to come from master A. -> wings animation
12 December 2008, 12:05 PM
