ok here's my first idea... I thought of going small-scale instead of choosing some large city scape with big things to ride on :)

these steam tooth fairies are caught by this young boy during work lol. The scene would be cozy and a bit dark... still working on choosing the right palette.

11-13-2008, 01:22 PM
hey H R U MAN

Good luck

11-13-2008, 01:46 PM
hey jassar, good to see your sketch

I will wait for more developing on the idea, I mean a more deep story behind it ... like the reason he caught them, why would they even work for him ... is it for their freedom, to live or to find something ... etc

good luck man :)

11-13-2008, 01:53 PM
I thought the story was clear Yosuf ^_^ , we all know the legend of the tooth fairy which takes the tooth if you put it under the pillow. This boy wanted to see it for himself but he was surprised that it was actually a team of steam robots!

just a mood test :)

11-13-2008, 01:55 PM
For determining your pallete one idea would be to give the tooth "Fairies" a light source of some sort that helps them work, it would allow you to illuminate their emmediate area but give you the flexability to leave the edges of the image as well as the background much darker.

I love the overall concept, very whimsical and yet steampunkish as well.

11-13-2008, 02:05 PM
Thanks Andrew, that's exactly what I want to do :)

11-13-2008, 02:22 PM
amazing as usual jassar :)

keep it up dude

11-13-2008, 03:59 PM
thanks Alfateh :)
By the way guys, I just want to make sure if the tooth fairy counts as a myth or legend? I personally think it does but I wanna make sure.

11-13-2008, 04:22 PM
thanks Alfateh :)

I would say yes to both (but don't tell the kids that!).

I'd also say that with this you have opened the door for Santa's mechanical Reindeer pulling his steam sled, The steam powered mechanical easter bunney, and maybe rainbows are formed from light refracting through the steam from a leprechaun's boiler of brass!

not only that ...but in general ... this opened the door for every story or myth we heared in our childhood to be recreated in terms of steampunk ...

imagine ....snow white ..cendrilla ... alaa el din and his robotic geny .. Hercules .. the mechanical hero ...and sooooo on ....

i think now i have got some good ideas :D

thanks alot jassar ;)

11-14-2008, 02:43 AM
Just dont disappoint us...old brother ;)

11-14-2008, 03:46 PM
I guess I get the story now, sorry for the misunderstanding .... I remember that fairy now from Hellboy movie, was so cute till it begun to eat those tooth :D

btw, now that you mention the myth and legend issue ... I think am missing something on my sketch, but I will try to find that them with my story from "Romeo & Juliet" ... anyway, still developing :)

keep going on the way ...

11-14-2008, 08:25 PM
good luck jassar

11-14-2008, 10:06 PM
Hey Jassar,

Really cool start my friend :D ..... and I have the same idea ...... hahahahahaha, but dont worry, I go for another one :D

I like a lot your concept on micro steampunks ! a cool twist, very original!! Looking forward for more updates on your concept!

11-15-2008, 11:44 AM
Hi Jassar

Good luck mate:)

11-15-2008, 12:30 PM
good luck brother

11-15-2008, 02:59 PM
Thanks guys :) , I'm going to stick with this concept. I'm working on the line art for the first robot and will post some WIPs soon.

11-15-2008, 09:20 PM
http://assets.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/22/15635/15635_1226784036_medium.jpg (http://assets.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/22/15635/15635_1226784036_large.jpg)

The line art will be a bit simple and with not much detail. details will be added during the painting.

11-16-2008, 11:03 AM
Hi Jassar,

Love your idea and the way you have played the composition - haha :applause:
One of the tiny robots seams to dance. I don't know if that was intentional, but wouldn't it be fun to have them actually dancing, and heaving tiny-bitty dresses and tutus, and may be a little crowns on heads, and tiny magic wands :D Just an idea...

11-16-2008, 11:11 AM
lol, I like your idea musi :) , my original idea was to make them look bored.. imagine a mob looking dude wearing a bunny suite ( and he really hates it, but it's his job ). I was thinking of giving them fake fairy wings and stuff, even though some of them will be smoking sigars with a mean look!

11-16-2008, 11:27 AM
Oh, that's all another twist, and I like it even better actually.
He-he, that's gonna be great!!!

11-16-2008, 12:00 PM
hi jassar,

like your idea and your lovely sketch's as usual... keep it up man :)

11-16-2008, 04:24 PM
Hello Jassar,

Love you steampunk toothfairy concept! The concept is very funny by itself! Best of luck!

Thanks guys :)
I played a bit more with the angle. I want it to have that macro feel to it. The sketch misses many details of course, but it's a start.

11-16-2008, 07:18 PM
i like the robot:) ....keep going brother:buttrock:

11-18-2008, 08:59 PM
like the DOF idea... i can imagine how things would be when you start your painting :)

Micro comp ^^

keep going!

ok, I started to work some more on the line art. As I said before there won't be much details ATM.
The dude in the back is examining the teeth with a lens just like a jeweler :)
I might add a fourth robot.

11-21-2008, 10:00 AM

Sorry for not posting any progress lately, but I was extremely busy. Progress is kinda slow.
I've started to paint the first tooth fairy, nothing much to show yet though.

12-02-2008, 08:46 PM
hey Jassar, colouring is looking very good so far! ... I prefer your last composition too, with the robots near the camera...
about the wings of this robot... have you thought about making them more bat-like? too classic idea maybe?

12-02-2008, 10:24 PM
Hey Fernando thanks man. Yes I am aiming for that last composition with the macro effect don't worry :)

12-03-2008, 07:49 AM

The third robot under construction :)

12-08-2008, 07:15 PM
Hey Jassar,

Nice updates my friend , the micro robots are looking cool! :D I think you need to put some backgrounds colors to use them on reflections and bouncing light over the robots to intagrate all the lighting and enviroment on your image, only a comment :) Again, cool work, and looking forward for more updates! Cheers!!

12-09-2008, 10:17 AM
Hey Ferx! I will add the color reflections on the bots after starting/finishing the background since I don't have a clear scheme yet.
Thanks for pointing that out man :)

Trying to define the light source. Of course the environment still lacks detail.

Long time since I updated anything. I worked a bit more on the shadows on the sheets, also tweaked and still tweaking things here and there.

01-09-2009, 01:35 PM
good work ....keep it up .

how about leaving some tracks behind the wheel !!

Final version? I wasn't able to work on this as much as I hoped for, but...

story: A little kid wanted to see the Tooth Fairy, so he pretended to sleep and waited and waited... in the end,to his surprise, the Tooth Fairy really did existed, but a little different than what was in mind!

Second version.... just made some color adjustments.

story: A little kid wanted to see the Tooth Fairy, so he pretended to sleep and waited and waited... in the end,to his surprise, the Tooth Fairy really did existed, but a little different than what was in mind!

01-15-2009, 01:50 PM

Software: Photoshop

“Finally my tooth fell! Now is the chance to see the Tooth Fairy!” that’s what the little boy was thinking before putting his tooth under his pillow and going to sleep. He pretended to sleep that night, then waited and waited for the Tooth Fairy to come….
Suddenly after a long time, tiny sounds were heard! Slowly and quietly he looked under his pillow and there she was! Or was it? To his surprise she was a bit different than what was in mind…

01-17-2009, 12:28 PM
Hi, Jassar!
I very much like your illustration. I do not want to be engaged in faultfinding, but it seems to me, You have overlooked to add a shadow on the basis under the character with wings. He drops out on a background. Excuse Me. I hope for your understanding. Success to you! images/icons/icon7.gif

01-17-2009, 03:07 PM
That is cute!
Good job : )
