This the first time i'm starting from the beginning in the sense of the competition, so cheers and best of luck to everyone, comments are welcome of course, as i try to brainstorm some topics, I want to refine my work this time, hopefully

11 November 2008, 06:33 AM (

I know a few are already doing an idea around Hephaestus, but I also wanted to do something involving him, otherwise i'll prob. never get around to do something related to him. This was initial idea, having him construct the bronze golem Talos, (for some reason i thought it was the cyclops), so showing him working on the head, as the body as in the back. Wasn't too keen about the shot

11 November 2008, 06:36 AM (

Similar idea about Talos , but in this case he has contrcuted most of the body, as Hep looks up and admires his weapon. I was thinking of doing a christmas theme, with santa, but not this time, anyways these two were my inital ideas, I like this one a bit better, going to base around this idea, going to try another shot

11 November 2008, 10:19 AM
its a quick sketch of heps workshop, as Hephaestus contructs Talos in his workshop, location being inside a volcano, i think i'll progress with this concept, change it later if it doesn't go the way I planned, few changes are prob. needed, comments are welcome

I decided to create a better composition, and fully concentrate on the environment. I was deciding to scrape this peice, because of another idea; santa;s workshop, but I decided to continue to do this one, and made it into hep's workshop, it has some few inventions that he had created, might not be clear at the moment, but they are the brass bull, the giant, and his workers, but i'm going with this piece for now, and santa;s workshop is also possible

Beneath the concept are just some rough shots of the workers that will be working for hep.

I'm not sure, but I hope what i'm doing is correct, because i'm confused in the sense of what is needed, so in essence hep the god is a worker and he's creating steampunk gadgets, is that incorrect in the sense its not him transformming into a steampunk type, hoping to hear from anyone, so i can correct what im doing, cheers

11 November 2008, 08:41 AM
I like it a huge workshop!

Good Luck!

11 November 2008, 06:55 PM
Thanks David,

I didn't know if I was going in the right direction, I guess that means I am, Cheers!

11 November 2008, 07:10 PM
wow! ... this sure is tough! .. i bet it's gonna be a knockout once it's complete! .. all the best to you dude!

11 November 2008, 07:13 PM
I love the added depth and detail of the most recent workshop picture.

11 November 2008, 07:56 PM
You've got a really nice style almost like using pastels I think it'll be very interesting to see where this goes.

Keep up the great work!

11 November 2008, 04:05 AM
Thanks for the comments guys,

I will work out the color scheme this week, and woud love to hear your comments on the progression of my work, cheers

11 November 2008, 10:11 AM (

Tyring to figure out the color palette of the painting, but during the process i reliazed its not strong enough concerning the topic, I will still finish it to see how the final product will look like, but for now i'm switching to another concept which I really like

11 November 2008, 10:17 AM
Basically I wanted to something more, I remembered the story that i read on a long time ago, so I decided to create a quick concept on that, its about indra the god, basically its based on 3 headed elephant, which went to destroy the 3 headed serpent because it kept on sucking up all the water banks, really good story/myth. If you want to know more about it the wiki is, and just did my first concept on it, cheers

11 November 2008, 10:32 AM (

Same image, but smaller, cheers

11 November 2008, 10:48 AM
Your last idea looks fantastic!

Good luck

11 November 2008, 12:52 PM
I don't know which concept I like best, though I am thinking it is the elephant. These all rock, this is going to be a great thread to watch :)

11 November 2008, 10:22 AM (

Heres a quick color version, of the sketch, with a few tweeks, still haven't worked in too much of the lighting, but basic colors are there, i might stick with this shot, but going to try another one, maybe I can get some more drama, after that I can move onto the progress section. Comments always welcome, cheers

11 November 2008, 02:31 PM
Like it :)

Keep going!

11 November 2008, 02:43 PM
Very cool so far! Nice concept with the 3 headed animals...well balanced battle. I think it would benefit from more contrast though and maybe having the snake come 'down' from over the upper right hand corner would strengthen the composition and make it more dramatic?? Just ideas....of course....keep it up!

11 November 2008, 07:35 PM
looking good i like the colour scheme

11 November 2008, 07:38 PM
I love the colors but a more dramatic angle might be really nice. Adding more action and imagery closer to the camera would be good.

11 November 2008, 12:03 AM (

Thanks for the comments guys, thanks Theresa, I think i know what you meants, tried moving him more towords the top right, which lead to recreating for a better pose also mathhew, i was going to try to go close but decided to go the oppoiste root, give more action in the posing, more advise would be nice, prob. tinker with this one and see where i can go, and then progress with this piece; work out the lighting, composition, action, details.

Also I decided to also make the snake steampunked, give it a more steampunk feel,
Still wondering about the background too, have work out what goes in the back

11 November 2008, 03:04 AM
Hey Rup,

Cool sketches and concepts so far !! :D Like your concept and designs on the cyclops, really nice!! The Indra concept is cool too, great design for the steampunk elephants vehicle ! :D Like your last sketch, more action on it :D Cant wait to see more updates on your concept! Cheers!!

11 November 2008, 06:23 AM
Cool work :) keep it up.

11 November 2008, 08:16 AM (

Thanks for the comments Fernando, and Amir

here I've a fixed the composition a bit, and offically decided to go with this one, and see where it takes me, try adding more depth, and continue to adjust and play with colors, prob. try to get back to it next week, and work on the lighting, comments are always welcome, in anyways that i can improve the image, cheers

11 November 2008, 02:35 PM
holy smokes that is awesome. the boxy design of the elephant just blew me away. What a bold choice. WOW. keep it up. :applause:

11 November 2008, 04:42 PM
cool choise man. I like how u planned the shot.
Theres a lot motion there and u could also experiment with color pallete or
make the light direction more intense.
Will the heads be mechanical or part organic?
Cool work :buttrock:

11 November 2008, 07:16 PM

Is that lightning coming from the elephants trunk?

11 November 2008, 09:46 PM
It looks amazing mate. The concept change was really a good choice. The colors are good too. I can't wait to see it with all the shadows and light. I'll keep my eyes in this entry. All the best and good luck in the contest!!

11 November 2008, 11:22 PM
great concept
keep it up :applause:

12 December 2008, 08:19 AM
This is shaping up greatly! I like the concept you have chosen and the designs look promising. Waiting to see more details! May I suggest a more dynamic perspective view, ie from the ground level looking up to face the fearsome Hydra.

12 December 2008, 09:51 AM
I like your composition. It works really well. Looking forward to see more :)

12 December 2008, 12:35 AM
Thanks for the comments guys,

Rasmus-thanks for the comment! your work is very inspiring, love your environmental work, let me know if your in the competition, unless i find your name first!

Jerome- Yea I know what you mean, I was thinking the same thing, but i tried to figure out a nice pose from a top shot, but indra/elephant never worked but i did do a slight top shot, i adjusted so gives it a slight upshot, so i think it turned out a lot better, i will post it soon, cheers and thanks for your comment!

Mohanamadreza-Thanks for your comment, do let me know if your in the competition too

Andre - Thanks for the comment, will keep an on your progression, looking good!

Fatis- Yea I think i'm leaning towards mechanical, I was still debating that it could be partially organic, but prob. go with being totally steampunked, Thanks for the comment!

Eric- yea it will be lighting, as indra the god, who's on the elpehant, was known to kill the serpant with a lighting bold which was given by the gods i believe, techically, she controlled weather I believe. So I decided why not let the elephant be the tool which was given by the gods, thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the comment guys, very helpful as well, will post an different version up soon, cheers

12 December 2008, 12:41 AM
Wow really great work. It reads well also. I know nothing of the mythology but can easily see it in the painting so far.

12 December 2008, 02:02 AM
I like all of your works, but still like the first one in terms of the mood,,
anyway, I believe the final version will be great. cheers, man.

12 December 2008, 02:25 AM
This is really cool! I can't get over the design of the three-headed elephant, it's just fantastic! In a more realistic drawing, I'd be worried that the snake's body is too slender to support those heads, but with a theme like this, I think you could pull it off.

12 December 2008, 06:50 AM (

This just an update in the design, i wa going to progress with the previous one, but decided to change it up a bit, this is the newly blocked in image,I will start working out the lighting, and details etc.., I think i should start progressing or i'll continue to figure out new poses or other ideas, going to fnish this one, then perhaps focus on another piece, cheers and thanks

Brian - Thanks for checking up on my thread! and for your encouraging comment, hope your participating aswell, do let me know where your thread is, cheers

Cheoljoo - yea i was going to continue with the first one, but ideas kept on flyin, and wanted to try something different i guess, thanks for the comment! cheers

Aly - I was worried about that as well, i will keep an eye out on the body to make sures it well balance, cheers and thanks!

12 December 2008, 02:43 PM
Hi Rup

Sure I am in the competition, too cool to miss, he he.

I think your composition actually was better when the snake-thing didnīt go all the way out of the front of the picture. It is like the main characters are pushed too close to camera. I think it worked better when it was in the middleground, maybe because there was some more environment. But your on the right track with the design, like your elephant very much :)

12 December 2008, 08:45 AM (

I moved back the snake, and added/changes some of its function, i also played more with lighting and color, still have to work more of the lighting especially adding more blue from the lighting, still playing around. I wanted to make the snake more frighting, I believe the other one was just to blah. So i will continue to work out the lighting and color, and hopefully move onto details, i'm also still working on the shot as i go along as well, cheers, feedback welcome!

12 December 2008, 08:59 AM
Hey Rup,

You are working hard :D great!! The Snake is really awesome!!

I like more your close up composition. Think this last is cool but needs a bit more "air" in the top part, you need to extend the canvas for a bit more sky on it, only a comment :D

Really great work!! and waiting for more updates!! Cheers!!

12 December 2008, 10:34 PM (

Thanks for the comment Fernando!, actually you were dead on that one, i increased the canvas to get some more sky in there, and worked a bit more with the composition

I also wanted to show more of indra, so i made him using a cycle like device for the purpose of charging the lighting bolt, just wanted some sort of interaction between the 3headed elephant and indra, its just a quick render, will have to play with lighting, and details later, also tryin to bring more color into it as i work on more of the lighting.

I also want to start on another idea, i'll try get some sketches down, ill try to work some of it during the week, post them next week, cheers,

12 December 2008, 03:55 AM (

Hello all, got some sketches done for another concept I want to do, more environmental side, thinkg of using the poseidon theme, i was thinking either making the kingdom, or his vechile the focus, but because i wanted to go with envir. i might focus more so on that, but i do want to put poseidon and his chariot in the scene, both the kindgom and chariot will be steampunked, I also created some seahorse type steampunked characters I'm doing this just to have some choices, plus I have sometime as well. Cheers

12 December 2008, 04:02 AM (

On this piece, i worked out more of the colors, and started to work out more details and lighting on the two main characters, I'm going for a more dramatic feel, not sure if its going to work, but hey why not. I will continue to bring the details out, and still need to add more blue as well;to the envir. cheers

i will also try to get some poseidon theme mood sketches up cheers!

12 December 2008, 08:08 AM (

Decided to remove some green, to emphasis the characters, hopefully giving more sense of how big the snake is, decided to work more on the background, wanted to make sure i had the right composition before moving to details, prob. will try to get a final draft done, next time around so I can start focusing more on my other piece, feedback would be great, cheers!

12 December 2008, 09:33 AM (

I ended up playing with the colors again, wanted to get more of mystical feeling i suppose, went with more lively colors, plus light vs darkness theme almost. I ended adding more details as well, so have more fun with it, still have some way to go, helpful tips always welcome

12 December 2008, 09:36 AM (

this the poseidon kingdom theme, just wanted to do some quick mood sketches, get the composition right, for this one i'm leaning more for the top one, still have to add a lot more sea life, to make it more lively, but its coming along, cheers, and tips are welcome, cheers! thanks for looking

12 December 2008, 08:06 PM
Hey Rup,

Cool updates :D I like the Indra concept with redish sky, a more dramatic enviroment on it. The glowing light looks cool, nice touch.

I see that you are having great fun with the challenge and yo go for a new idea :D Sounds cool the Poseidon concept, and nice sketches. Waiting for see the development for that idea. Cheers!!

12 December 2008, 01:32 AM
Great environment concepts. Your concepts are coming along very well. Keep up the good work.

12 December 2008, 01:16 PM
what a change
not much time left you know :)

01 January 2009, 10:04 AM (

Hi all, happy new year everyone, man its been a while, I didn't think I would have the time to do it, but because of the extension, I had yesterday and today to finish the poseidon theme piece. This is the process work, i'm going to also submit the final one, but i know i can still work on it more, I think i like a lot better the indra concept, I think i went overboard on the idea. Cheers everyone, everyone's work is looking great, just wow

01 January 2009, 10:14 AM (

This is the final piece for now, prob. fix and adjust a few things more, but for the remaing time i have, this will do for now. Will try to work on it some more. Just going through everyones work, its looking really good, very inspiring thats for sure, cheers

Asaf - Yea I know, just got to it now, and by luck too, thanks to the extension

Cory- Thanks for the comment, love your piece by the way

Fernando- Thanks, yea thats what i decided, I hope to see you complete your piece, its looking good, cheers

01 January 2009, 08:23 PM (

Software: Photoshop

Just did a few tweeks for the final image, its a steampunked version of Poseidon's kingdom, I wanted to focus on nature vs metal. I know I probabley have a lot more I could do to it, but I wanted to move on. I focused on his chariot and the kingdom. I wish i had done some more concepts, maybe get some better compositions.

I was in it more for the learning process and helpful tips, which i'm greatful to everyone, hope to see you guys next time around too.

Can't wait till the next competition.

01 January 2009, 11:05 PM
I enjoyed looking through your progression through various concepts.
very prolific. I like the dynamic composition in Indra and the mood in the

01 January 2009, 02:47 AM
