View Full Version : dark gradients when inserting new edges

i've seen this before, and it was in Maya. i heard it was somehow due to the normals, but now im using Modo and if the normals were off the poly would be reversed (invisible).

does anyone know the nature of these ultra-black gradient edges?

try deleting the vertex of normal map. Did you import the mesh?

i havent tried deleting the vertex map, but i did try restarting Modo - which worked :/

nope the mesh was created originally in Modo.

it got to a point where every single edge I would create, even just normal edge loops - would be that super dark color.

actually i still keep getting these. even after restarting Modo. My mesh is completely legit- I swear. I dont understand these dark gradients. It works fine in SubD mode tho.

Out of curiosity, are there any maps listed under 'other maps'?

Could you upload a file containing a few of the offending polys to see if they exhibit the issue on my system?

i dont see any other vertex maps listed-however my knowledge on vertex maps is next to nothing. so i need to do some research on the topic.

ive posted the file. thank you so much for offering to take a look.

There's a vert normal map in your file which is causing the issue. Just delete it and it will be resolved. This would have been created by another application.

yea i originally imported the meshes from Cinema 4D. It was so tedious modeling in Cinema, that i brought it over to Modo and it was a lot better to work with.
