This is a really rare and wonderful description of workflow that you get to see only very rarely, especially over here in the States.

The Japanese seem to like to document this kind of thing more, and I'm glad that they do, I think it really helps everyone raise the bar.

I still make everyone at work watch the document of MGS2.

Looks like I'm bringing that in to the office again today...

P.S. I find it amazing that the full size texture maps for all characters were only 512x512 , brilliant shader work by the kojima dev team ! .

congratulations, hideo kojima and others that help make metal gear solid 4 successful. metal gear solid 4 is some what satisfy, i enjoy the cut scenes.

Hey there,

We were so impressed with the original article when it was laid out as a Softimage Customer story on their community site. Such a strong article!

Konami and Softimage directly offered the assets to us so we could bring it to the community as a CGSociety feature. Hope everyone enjoys the depth the guys go into and the beautiful layout.

Well...I bought it and play it and saw those movies, it's flowing, it has no timing and can't feel the weight of the characters, blablabla.....

As always, they use MOCAP and they don't know how to key them...

MGS4 is a great game, but with those movies............not match~

Well, this article is great and I think it helps understand how great XSI is and how brilliant the folks at Konami are.
I had a question though. Is it possible for u to contribute some images as gpl to use on wikipedia?

Great article! Very informative, I had no idea that they were relying on XSI. Looks like I'm going to be toying my student copy more often from now on.
