View Full Version : Repeatable crash in R11 (Mac OS X Leopard)

10 October 2008, 02:57 PM
I've just moved up to Leopard and noticed a problem when I switch window layouts. When I'm in the 4 window view and switch the Layout to Bodypaint (either paint or UV edit) C4D freezes up. No bug report window or recoverable scene saved, no beachball, it just sits there.

I've noticed I can avoid this if I switch while in a one-window view.

Anyone else noticed this?

I'm on a Mac Pro OS X 10.5.5, running 11.012 (this also occurred with 11.008.)

Yes I get it when trying to switch to BP Paint (but not UV). Os X 10.5.5, R11, MacBook Pro, 4GB RAM

Sorry, I checked again. I only have the problem with the paint layout.

Still kind of annoying, though.

I'm getting something similar on my MacBook Pro. When I enter UV Edit or Paint Layouts, the viewport locks up. I tried single window and multiple windows and it does the same thing. If I click-drag to move the editor camera, it moves, but doesn't show up unless I cover the viewport with another window or menu. Also, once it locks up on one of these layouts, it is locked up in all of them.

Anybody else have a similar problem? It's really frustrating because I need to get a few characters UV mapped.

Did someone log that error with Maxon? I'm sure they look at it and release a fix soon. With the new auto updater that's not an issue at all.

I logged it with them. I found that switching the viewport from OpenGL to Software mode fixes it. So that's a good solution for now, but I hope the fix it soon.

I wonder if this is an issue with particular GPUs.

Go to fullscreen mode, hit F5 to four-window mode and then try to exit the full-screen (either with ctrl+tab or the icon in top right). It freezes. So it's like there's something buggy in the four window screen.

EDIT: Sent the above glitch to support and they replied
'this freeze is not reconstructable here, so it might be a problem at your machine. Maybe your graphicsdriver is causing this problem' and suggestion to try it with software shading. Software shading didnt freeze C4D, so i take it my MBP gfx-card has shitty drivers (geforce 8600m gt)? Would anyone try to replicate this issue?

Can't confirm on mac. Maybe crashs only on win. Macbook Pro 2,2 geforce8600m-gt

Works fine here. Mac Pro 8 core, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT.

Edit: C4D R11

I can confirm this crash on my 8Core MacPro 2.3 (NVidia 8800GT) OSX 10.5.5 C4D R11

Strange stuff, I get it to 'work' everytime I try it, on my MacbookPro 2.6ghz 4gb geforce 8600m gt :(
A bug only makes sense if everybody gets it.. But in future I just pay extra attention not to switch layouts or such when in 4-window.

I can confirm as well; Mac OS X 10.5.5, C4D R11 (latest version), Mac Pro, 8-core, 2.8GHZ, 18 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT.

An odd crash: C4D becomes completely unresponsive, but is not eating CPU or seen as unresponsive in Activity monitor.

Well, we all have different hardware in some way or another. That is creating the bed for platform dependent bugzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. The entertainment for the MAXON Dev's never seizes...

MAXON is well aware of these Open GL problems, but there is a limit to what we can do to prevent them short of disabeling OGL.
Of course we are in contact with Apple on those problems.

I've got the same bug posted in the 1st post here, but this didn't happen on R10.5, only R11.
I can't reproduce Hilt's crash either.

Macbook Pro, osx 10.5.5

With each new version of CINEMA 4D usualy new functions become available. Sometimes these new functions will make already existing problems visible. If R 10.5 never used a specific OGL function but R11 does, then R11 might crash if the OGL driver does not support the function correctly.
