View Full Version : Quick question: how to keep polygons faceted?

I'm working on a product now that has a lot of faceted surfaces, pretty much like a jewel.
I just can't get it right.. I want to keep my polygons faceted, not smooth.
If I use the standard shader with the faceted option checked the result is perfect. But is there another way to deal with this? Is there a global or individual 'smooth off' option?

Software: 3Ds Max 2009 (using Vray and Maxwell)
Experience: Intermediate to advanced (but I haven't played with 3D for a while)

its been years since I used max, but iirc doesn't it have "smoothing goups" in the edit mesh modifier? assuming your gem is one big object, select all the faces and changing the smoothing group angle to 0 degrees so there is no normal smoothing across an edge.
