View Full Version : Life of Dupie Episode 1 Animation WIP

09-19-2008, 06:27 PM
Hi, my name is Jorge Flores, I am a student animator and I have a concept idea called "Life of Dupie". I am currently trying to complete the rigs for the two characters, "Mr. Dupie" and "Flake". I will post up my concept art, animatic, and idea. Please feel free to coment on anything. I will continue to post up work as I go. This is my final project for the school and I will be moving on to Animation Mentors next year.

I couldnt attach the animatic, so I just posted the storyboard. Its fairly rough, but there is some cuts that I did not include in the storyboard.

excellent planning on this, you seem to have it all figured out. the storyboard does have a feel of being a episode tho. guessing you have many more planned out? this one is relatively simple and seems like a good place to start off.

Thanks, yeah its a lot of planning, only to do a mere 30 second animation. I just hope it comes out like how I plan it too. The facial animation will hopefully look really nice and organic

Neat, I'll certainly be tracking your progress on this.

I hope no dialogue will be involved in this short animation, because I'm really hoping to see some convincing body and facial animation acted out.

The two characters look really cool. I can just imagine Dusty saying, "hello, I'm a mac" and Mr. Dupie following up with, "and I'm a PC", lol. :p

Hehehe, thats funny. No there won't be dialogue, since this is noobish, it will be simple animation following the storyboard and done to my best potentials. Actually, thinking futuristically, if this were to be a cartoon series, I feel it could be done really nicely and it would be very entertaining and funny.

Ok, so just finished some Mouth Blends, if its hard to see, basically i made a variety of frowns, smirks, smiles, sneers, and mouth twists..

09-21-2008, 08:51 PM
wow, you have put a lot of planning into this. I like the storyboard. It looks like it'll be very subtle animation, which isn't all that easy imo. I would also like to actually be able to see your mouth blends :p REALLY hard to see with that tiny little picture you posted

storyboard looks funny, i shall keep an eye on this ;)

09-24-2008, 03:36 AM
Yea the mouth blends pic i took was teeny tiny. I'll post up newer stuff as soon as I make more blend shapes and I will make the size larger. I just had to redo lots of things that costed me some days. So yeah, keep posted

Alrighty just finished the eye blend shapes. Pretty cool stuff. Now im gonna make the facial interface controller.

09-26-2008, 04:28 AM
Here's a better view of the mouth blends.

09-26-2008, 12:52 PM
That looks awesome, man. I really like his eye blends. Are your characters gonna talk or just make facial gestures?

09-28-2008, 09:15 PM
Okie dokie, just finished the face controller interface, and it works just fine! Had some problems here and there, but fixed it all. Now I am gonna move on to the next character.

09-29-2008, 12:32 AM
that face rig looks fun to use :p What is that around his head?

09-29-2008, 01:05 AM
Oh, thats to move the head, left. right, up, down..etc

10-02-2008, 08:14 PM
Okay, so I am all done rigging both characters nicely thankfully, and I will start animating. I should hopefully be done be early November if all goes nice. I will post up progress as I go, keep an eye out. Thanks

For those who tune in, does anyone know how I can make the tie move realisticlly with Ncloth? I dont want it to look all stiff and boring

10-03-2008, 09:28 PM
Ok, so im not animating just yet, Im just positioning the characters to make sure the rigs are working ok and setting up the scene. The lighting is obviously not final, cause I know it looks flat and whatnot. But this is just a render of a draft what was is going on. I have little experience with lighting, but that's down the road, I will look a tutorials for that final stage. As of now, I am drawing out the key poses, with the break down poses, and final camera shots and angles.

10-04-2008, 09:25 PM
Ok so I finished drawing out the key poses and what the camera shots will be. The following will be a sequence of the animation workflow.

Nice work! Looks like this is coming along perfectly.

10-05-2008, 01:23 PM
lol, looks hilarious. Can't wait to see it in action :p Then I might be able to say something helpful to you. Right now, this looks great. Well thought out and funny.

10-05-2008, 06:43 PM
Now that I look at it, so camera angles, are boring, so I may improvise on new camera angles later when I start capturing the final shot.

Well, today I got big news from my professor, that I agree with. Due to the lack of time and planned process for this animation, I cannot continue with this project. I appreciate the help that I have received and the support. As for now, I will grab a free 3D rig and practice animating that for my final. Maybe later down the road, when my animation skills have further developed I may finish this animation. Though the ambition was there for these months, it is inevitable that I must start fresh and small, and later do more ambitious things when I have more experience. Thanks again
