I'm trying to animate the swing of a watch mechanism hairspring used on a balance wheel. The outer point of the spring is fixed, the inner will rotate with the balance wheel pinion. Here's a link to a picture of one. http://www.alliancehorlogere.com/depot/images/5/52/PlainBalanceComplete.jpg
Imagine the wheel will be rotating back and forth with about a 120 degree swing in either direction, causing the hairspring to compress and unwind back and forth from the middle. The post on the outer part of the spring will be fixed.
Any ideas? I'm using 3d Studio 2009...I tried a helix animatin gthe turns property, but that doesn't apply to the spline AFTER I've modified it to hae thickness and height and added the post attachment bits. I also tried using the various FFD modifiers and animating the control points...which properly compresses the spring but doesnt rotate it.
