Holding your spot seems to be the thing to do, so here we go. Updates as events warrant. ;)
** UPDATE :
Here's some background on where all this is going.
The 'Mini-Ninjas' will have a cartoony look and similar motion. Not exactly unrealistic exactly, but definitely exagerrated in the spirit of all action oriented cartoons in the genre.
The background of the story involves two men who, for various reasons, became Ninjas to fight evil and do good. During one of their hair-raising adventures they got miniaturized by a mad scientist (to something on the order of 4 to 5 inches tall). Despite this, they defeated the scientist in an epic battle... unfortunately they destroyed his miniaturization machine in the process... thus dooming themselves to live life as Mini-Ninjas.
Each blamed the other for this sad turn of events, and eventually one turned to evil... and the ongoing battle of the Mini-Ninjas began, ranging across varied locales such as kitchen counters, backyards and other suburban environments; all rendered far more dangerous to our fighting duo due to their small stature.
(Yes, I just made all that up as i went along so sue me)
The animation I'll create for the challenge will depict a piece of the final showdown cinematic, that would lead us into the game itself (since this is supposed to be game related). I picture 'Mini-Ninjas' as a third person fighting game, if that matters at all.
I'll post a more indepth story and lead in sometime soon... likely storyboards too.

Just put up a quick sketch as I start the process of blocking out the action. Will post some info about the characters and background etc later today.

Here's a very early test animation of one of my Mini-Ninjas. I spent an afternoon building him, early evening rigging him up etc and say 40min putting together this test. The sole purpose of it is to just see if this little guy is viable, and I think he is.
From here I'll make the second ninja and put together one of the scenes from the final work... spending a lot more than 40min on animating it. hehheh.

Here's a walk test of the bad guy... lots of poppin' in there so it needs work, but I'm getting a feel for these little guys.

looking pretty good. The walk needs the feet to raise up a little more. he's kind of shuffling now.
Must see more mini ninjas!
Nice idea, not really getting the 'mini' ninjas thing, at the moment they just look like regular sized ninjas, but I am sure your scene will solve that.
How on earth do you work so FAST!! You're gonna be able to submit about 15 animations if you carry on at this rate, don't you have a job to go to?:D

datter I'm diggin the ninja's...I just checked out your walk cycle...and then it dawned on me. Ninja's never walk....if they have to move across a room...they either do really cool flips and jumps until they get to where they need...or if it's steal mode time...they shuffle, crouched and walk kinda sideways...
Oh man...just hit me...make them move like Chris Farley in Beverly Hills Ninja :thumbsup: keep up the good work man I'm really lovin the style

I totally agree with Aken that walk looks a bit to cyclical, maybe he could enter the frame by quickly move to that street corner, sneak a look, when he feels its all clear, quickly turns the corner and carries on the walk..
just a thought.

Yeah still plugging away. I too agree on the walk thing, there's not really any point in the scene where they'll just saunter along. The next one I do will likely be more in keeping with the whole Mini-Ninja attitude. Someone mentioned they don't get the whol e whole "Mini" part of the Mini-Ninja experience... but they're right in that this will be more apparent in the final scene, and as I get more time to build the background.... I'm just focusing on testing the characters themselves out now.
Now, back to my day job... which happens to be 3d animation (etc), but nothing to do with Mini-Ninjas. More of them this evening. :)

I love what you have going on here. Keep it up and I have to agree with Aken009 about how ninjas move about...but hey this is your thing...just keep doing whatcha doing.

I'm going to keep an eye on this one. Looks good so far. If I can offer on bit of crit. Model wise, it looks like you don't have enough volume in his head. In this (http://www.davidtitusproductions.com/minininjas/stills/minininja_still_001.jpg) image you posted, the side view of his head seems a little off.
No big deal though, as this is an animation challenge. :)

hey datter, I was wondering what your models are...geo-wise...poly's with s smooth on it? or SubD's? Nurbs?
I'm just curious cuz I'm running a P3 600 and it's a little slow for SubD's...it kinda sucks...but you gotta work with what you got

Actually I usually use sub-d's and my system isn't much faster than yours (P3 800mhz, 768mbs ram). I tried various things before settling on this method, but nothing was really working that well for me. I never "got" nurbs somehow, or they just didn't agree with me at least.
Now having said that there's not much in the way of polys on these fellas really, sort of sub-d without the smoothing applied at the end hehheh.
Working on the big fight environment this evening, and future tests etc will use it once completed... so the "mini" part of Mini-Ninja will make more sense.

ok, I hacked together the beginnings of the fight environment from bits and pieces from other projects I've done, plus some odds and ends I had kicking around. (All untextured at this point, and they may remain that way... we'll see)
Yes, the battle will take place on a kitchen counter top. ;)
(ignore the nasty GI renders... thought I'd use a little FR for these, but didn't have the patience to wait for nice clean ones hehheh)
Next up, some fight choreography.

Whoa! Thats so cool =) When I first saw your mini-ninjas I thought they'd be like 3 feet tall.. not 3 inches. Lookin good!

I kind of like it stark white. Gives it kind of a minimalist feel to it. It will also make the ninja's pop out and be a more visiable against it.

Both guys in a few stills from an animation segment I'm tweaking. As earlier, ignore the nastiness of the quick GI renders... I doubt I'll be using it for the final work.

can't wait to see them move and fight each other. I wonder if the cloth in the waist is enough to distinguish them from each other. I mean, maybe add a little more stuff, like a different color headband or sword? or maybe they can have different color outfit? Since they seem to be exactly the same model, that detail might get lost when they move around fast. But these are just my opinion, they look pretty good in those pics.

I was hoping to get some animation up today but it looks like I'm spending my evening getting together a light saber battle scene for my son and his friends. Maybe tomorrow, or Monday at the latest.

Here's a *very* short clip... part of a fight sequence I imagine. I sort of made this up as I went along. Gotta finish those storyboards. ;)

PS- Yes there is a bit of modeling weirdness in these low poly guys, but I suppose it's not about the modeling. :)
