View Full Version : mental ray tesselation and surface approx crash

1) how and where can i set the tesselation on a per object basis in mental ray (i can remember an approx window in older versions but where is it gone in 5.0?)
2) when i use the surface approx override in the mental render globals maya crashes quite often (not always)..
anyone experienced that as well?

Have a look in the window>rendering editors>mentalray>approx editor.
In regards to the crashing, try changing your Approx Method to Length/Distance/Angle and change the Style to Tree. Play with these settings.

that was what i was looking for..
concerning the crashing: changing tesselation of the object (mayas tesselation in the attrib editor) from advanced back to "regular", solved the tesselation issue and stopped crashing it..
and here the result:
