View Full Version : Centauride Hana

This is an attempt at a female centaur done in a style similar to Square Enix.
I've decided, after many years, that I prefer the anime and cartoon styles. This is my first try in that direction. I am obviously no texture artist, and concentrated on modeling. There are also many things, other than the texture, that need improvement, but I started this in the Spring and have been distracted from it many times. I basically wanted to finish this and move on to new projects. This is something I will come back to eventually and improve on. Along with Square Enix, I was inspired by the design style of the My Little Ponies toys. I have always liked horses with thicker legs and those toys have very thick legs. This is a Japanese version of a centaride. The kimono is shortened, obviously, to fit the horse portion. The colors of the kimono were taken from similar fabrics I found in kimono magazines here in Japan.
For all its flaws, this is a finished piece. For now at least.
Concept art done in ArtRage.

Wow its very nice concept wise, I would play a little with the composition and/or the angle of the picture, it doesn't 'sit' very well yet. It's too much of a snapshot right now, with all different elements fighting for space in the composition. Maybe you could take one element and make it the focus of your picture? -Not that you should remove the other elements, just use some techniques to bring them to the background, or blend them into a whole.
I absolutely love how you did the grass, could you tell how you did that and reached that quality?

It's been a while, but what I remember is, I first duplicated the mesh for the dirt. I then removed vertices where the tree, rock, trail and bamboo are. I repositioned vertices to smooth the edges of the new openings. I made this mesh a static emitter then played with the settings.
My rendered settings are:
Particle Motion Settings
Grass Material Settings
I hope this is what you wanted.

I think this is a nice attempt.
The grass is indeed cool looking
I like the soft modeling lines. No doubt showing off your My Little Pony inspiration.
I think the one thing for me that I'd like to see is a fully blossomed tree
It seems to have dropped most of its flowers so some sort of texture on the ground would make up for it.
Just a little something to keep in mind in future projects
Best of luck to your further blender explorations.

I was going to explain it away as early Spring, so there would be few blossoms with little ground clutter. The truth is more of what my computer can handle.
I also wanted flowers growing from the ground but again, it was a matter of what the computer would handle. Render time and all. I understand using layers and hiding objects, but when I needed to see too many objects, it would really start to drag.
