View Full Version : Photoshop Pen Tool Blues

I'm trying to create my first brush. Working on a brush for grass, though I know that Photoshop already has one.
When I use the pen tool to create blades of grass, I can't seem to just create an outlined shape. Photoshop always fills the shape in with the foreground color.
Attempting to follow this tutorial: http://www.informit.com/isapi/product_id~%7BB4D8DFC2-CC91-4357-BA2D-30BD5876DF41%7D/content/index.asp
Any advice appreciated! :)

Sorry but I dont have any advice, but Are you using PS7? I have never had this problem with 6 but when I went to 7 recently I havent been able to get it to work. It just does what you said.

Sure do, it's Photoshop number 7.

hm... how to explain this without an example image...
When you choose the Pen/Path tool from the Toolbar (P key), look to the far left on the Options Bar atop the screen. You'll see 3 square icons... choose the one in the middle -- the one that's an outline and not filled in, and has a quill pen on it.
You apparently have one of the other 2 functions chosen, which are for creating Vector Shapes, and just a plain filled in shape, rasterized.
Hope that helps. :bounce:
