View Full Version : depth map shadows

at the moment I'm lightning my scene for my animation. I wanna use depth map shadows because they are much faster and I also want the smooth look of them. the problem is I always get those really bad not antialiased edges.

I tryed increasing the resolution size (set to the maximum allready), I also turned off the auto focus and used the light position value. And I also turned of recieve and cast shadows of my background.

Maybe the problem is that the terrain is really huge compared to the objects on the terrain?

here are some pictures

Could you hold your main light with a low res dmap + a high filtering 4 to 8. Just to get them good as they are seen on the mountains and almost erased under the cube.
Then create a "shadow only spot" aiming the cube.
color 0 0 0
intensity 1
shadowColor -1 -1 -1

you mean I should create a spotlight which creates only the shadow for the cube?

the problem is the cube is only a testobject and will be replaced, and the other object will be animated.

I'm not sure if it is good to animate the light too?

You can cover the area of all moving objects with a single spot. You should get a more precise result.
If not maybe you can try a certain amound of parallels spots aiming like the sun...
