I am creating smoke and the doubt i have is which render should be used to render the particle render type- cloud.

You can use the cloud particle shader or sprites - or even maya fluids depending on the type of smoke. Try em all out - see which you prefer and what suits your project

take a look at this script. It's called 'overburn' and I used it a lot to create smoke. It takes quite long to render, but the results are worth it.

Basically it creates particles and uses fluids to shade them.
