I am a 3D Studio Max user who is currently evaluating Modo as a way to add sculpt and paint functionality to my workflow. I have done a few sculpts with Modo, exported a base mesh in OBJ format and imported in Max. I use a Mesh Smooth modifier with subdivision level 3. I can't seem to get the same displacement results in Max that I originally had in Modo. Does anyone know what the differences are between the way that Max and Modo interpret displacement maps? Are there any good sources of information on this subject?
I have experimented with displacement and vector displacement maps in various formats including EXR and TGA. I have tried using Mental Ray, VRay and the Scanline renderer. I am not particular on the way that I need to work/render. I am just looking for a sensible solution.
