Great work!! :)

06-01-2003, 12:02 PM
The pallete is a little too soft for my taste, but the artwork and its lines are great.

06-01-2003, 12:05 PM
really nice work man, at first i thought it was a cartoon cel, you ever think of bringing yr pics to life in animation? i could really sit and watch this for hours.

06-01-2003, 12:17 PM
nice line sketches. colours match aswell as style, but i do wana ask, HOW COME THIS IS FRONT PAGE???? iv not been in this forum for that long, but this does not seem difficult. how long did it take??

I would like to argue that this can be done in a day or two.

PLEASE bare in mind, i am not saying that work is poor, its not.

its just that its SIMPLE. its just line sketching. iv been doin that since i was six!!

06-01-2003, 12:23 PM
Great work!

06-01-2003, 01:14 PM

ee01akk2, dood,...get over yourself fagboy.

Anyhow I love the picture man...had a hard time telling if it was a painting or a good toon-shader. awesome image.

06-01-2003, 01:40 PM
Ive come across this before in my internet travels.... glad to see how far along you are with it.

Great job:applause:

06-01-2003, 03:01 PM

Missile Mouse rocks!

Really love this character, since my friend João Ruas showed me.
I wish I had a t-shirt of it.

Love your work

Keep posting

PS - uh, in spite of loving your line art, this picture is too washed out IMO. More contrast perhaps?

Wow, you've done drawings like this since you were six? I'd really like to see those drawings.

If I played with clay when I was six, does that devalue clay sculptures from an artist who has obviously built skill for years? I'm sure your drawings were fine when you were six. Maybe they were even impressive. But that does not relate to this great piece of art at all. You seem to be under the misconception that simplism is simple to accomplish well. If you can't see the years of work and practice in this piece, then maybe your artistic skill has far outgrown this forum, and maybe this physical plain. This piece is highly inspirational, and beautiful. If that doesn't belong on the front page, what does?

- Dave

I love your drawing. It reminds me a lot of the style of Jean Giraud (Moebius (http://www.bpib.com/illustrat/giraud.htm) ).

Good piece,I am looking forward to the comic.

06-01-2003, 03:29 PM
Wow, thanks guys for the healthy response. I appreciate it.

Totitch - hey man, a familiar face. Nice to see you here too.

hypercube - thanks for ordering the books! Just in time, rent's due today.

Kirt - I havn't been to eatpoo in so long. I should stop by.

malcolmvexxed, Bruzundanga - it is a bit soft, I'm not sure I'll revisit this palette, but that's what art's all about, experimenting, and practice, right?

ganglyon - think about it all the time...all the time.

ee01akk2 - dude, I am six. And it didn't take very long, a day or so. But, should we judge a piece on how long it takes or how well it looks?

Segadult - well put.

RobertoOrtiz - wow, Moebius? Best compliment I've had all day.

06-01-2003, 03:54 PM
Very nice :) Use of colours reminds me of bengal, you know him?

Ed Lee
06-01-2003, 05:18 PM
Yeah, I like the drawing and the overall tonality. The lighting ties it all together.

Like the other poster said...I thought it was some French artist..it has that look..but, you homegrown, ey?

06-01-2003, 05:22 PM
really nice work. look forward to seeing more.

06-01-2003, 05:31 PM
well, what a way to enter cgtalk. nice work. when will the comic be out.:applause:

06-01-2003, 05:32 PM
Yeah, I know bengal...love the guy. I was more influenced by the color of a japanese artist named Chimonoto.
Anyway, born and raised in AZ, Ed.

06-01-2003, 05:50 PM
Thats some great stuff :D
i really like the style of the weapons / mechanics, etc....

lets see more!!

06-01-2003, 05:51 PM
That's gotta be one of the coolest concepts I've seen in a long time! A sperm whale Japanese tech tank!!!

Wow

I'd love to read the comics.

excellent work, though the rhino kinda head on a mechanic spiderlike body bugs me a little. Why do they save the rhino head instead of creating a complete robot? the head doesnt seem to give any advantages to the creature. try to keep it more realistic, great work though

06-01-2003, 07:43 PM
:xtreme: COOL! :xtreme:
:applause: :applause: :applause::applause:

06-01-2003, 08:25 PM
great work! nice!:applause:

06-01-2003, 10:15 PM
9th Legion - since you asked, this particular robot actually has the head of a sperm whale, not a rino. They gave it a robot body because the last time they dragged the whale out to war it just laid there on it's side, beached. It was only good for blocking incoming fire. Now, with it's new robot body it can run around and bite people. Which is why they genetically engineered a sperm whale with a top row of teeth (for you marine biologists out there.)

agent 44 - Hey nice comment. I't was just wondering what the story was behind this creature, i'm glad you already thought of it before my post, and having a solid answer.
Nice idea, too bad for the whale he has to block the incoming fire:p

Keep us informed with the comic, i recon' we'd all like to see that nifty piece of artwork.

06-02-2003, 12:49 PM
hey mista44

awesome work. love the tones, awesome shadows, and weird enemies. a very nice result.

06-02-2003, 01:09 PM
the colours are perfect! i also love the face of the mouse (?) because the glasses make another pair of eyes - interesting effect!

06-06-2003, 10:21 AM
You have a very nice illustrative look going here, love your line work and the color pallete is a not exactly my thing but that doesn't matter, but personally I love brighter, crisper palletes but that's personal choice. ;)

You have received the CGtalk choice award .Please feel free to display this image anywhere you like! Very good work!

upon receiving this award, it guarantees you a spot in the cgtalk gallery hall of fame (http://gallery.cgtalk.com) - which you are now placed

P.S. Please email me @ tito@cgnetworks.com so I can send you the award .psd file

moebius is god!

06-07-2003, 05:19 PM
You rock hard and steady. Nice to see you on cgtalk.
I love the pic, despite the upper teeth. Does he use modified sonar like a bloodhound?
Are you gonna do more on this story or are you working on other things right now?
I keep thinking you cant get any better but you keep getting better, which blows me away.

06-07-2003, 06:16 PM
Moth? Is that YOU!? hahaha, amazing.
Yes, he does use modified sonar. I'm going to be doing more with this story, but have another one I'll be working on before I get to it. It's the story tagged on to this one. (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68041)

Oh, and I'm keeping the upper teeth.

06-09-2003, 12:05 PM
Nice job..........

06-24-2003, 08:13 AM
The piece as a whole is awesome!
my only regret...is that the mouse character is very common in cartoons while your whale and the other characters are more original. The atmosphere is on point though.:buttrock:

06-24-2003, 09:35 AM
great work, great colors

07-30-2003, 05:23 AM

Hmm.... I see this thred is long gone, but I have just found this image - and, it so reminds me of final Motoko and Light Tank fight in GITS - was it anyhow an inspiration?

10-07-2003, 01:02 AM
an inspiration and an homage.
