Vancouver Island private career training school Lost Boys Learning ( held it's graduation dinner June 20, 2008 to celebrate their third class of 3D Animation and Visual Effects graduates. After 40 weeks of intense training, the class of seven BC and international students received Diplomas from Owner/Instructor Mark Bénard ( following dinner at the Atlas Bar & Grill. (

BC students Perry Sohn ( and Andy Chen (, along with Nicholas Knudson (, Drew Current ( and Jennie Bates ( from USA, George Kyparissous ( from Greece and Hsuan-Yi Fang ( from Taiwan will now be acquiring jobs in the film, television, animation and games. Their studies included live action filming, visual effects elements and green screen filming, 3D modeling and animation, compositing and traditional drawing and sculpting.

Bénard spoke at the ceremony, commenting, “It was my great pleasure to teach this group. They have an inspiring amount of energy and pushed our projects to new levels. I feel incredibly fortunate to be in the position to meet and contribute to such an creative group of individuals. I’m proud to have been part of all their ambitious endeavors. We wish them all the best in their careers and look forward to hearing about their future adventures.”

Lost Boys Learning alumni are already working on feature films including Clint Eastwood’s Changeling, the new Incredible Hulk, Lost Boys 2: The Tribe, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium with Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman and the animated feature Space Chimps; TV series including Stargate: Atlantis and Tin Man; videogame cinematics for Stuntman: Ignition and the new Mortal Kombat videogame.

Lost Boys Learning is a Registered Private Post Secondary Institution with the Private Career Training Institutions of BC. They offer a one-year program in Visual Effects for Film & Television, taught by VFX Supervisor/Producer Mark Bénard. More information is available at (

Thanks for the support Nils!

I take a lot of pride in the fact that I can post the reels of my ENTIRE class. Teaching is way more fulfilling when I don't have to resort to the old triage system anymore.

It was a great year!
