Looks very "homeworld" esque..

Excellent work!

05-27-2003, 08:37 AM
:xtreme:

Way too spectacular not to get a front page plug :D

The only critique I'd offer, is that the main ship gets a little lost in the back canyon wall because of the similar hue of purple. I'd say put some lighter value on the ship to simulate a chrome surface (some bright highlights).

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah ! Sparth est dans la place !!!! :bounce:

Realy cool ! How longt did you takr to o it ?

05-27-2003, 08:49 AM

Economy of line. Sparth's style is particularily strong in this aspect. Although it is a matter of taste, the thing you'll notice about this type of art is that almost every single stroke or texture or shape is quite carefully considered and effective to the overall form... no matter how 'rough' it may appear in terms of technical skill. I like it.

Nice one Sparth! great colours as usual.

05-27-2003, 09:44 AM
WoW, great work Sparth ! ! !

05-27-2003, 09:50 AM

05-27-2003, 10:29 AM
quiche quiche quiche :)

05-27-2003, 10:43 AM
I remember Chris Foss ... he illustrated "The Joy of Sex" didn't he? Yeah I know he also did a great line in airbrushed SF artwork too. Whatever happened to him?

Sparth : very impressive work. It's a very persuasive scene. I agree that it's not 'rough' ... more painterly and atmospheric I feel. I like the fact that a lot of 2D art gets plugged on the front page. Kudos to Cgtalk.

05-27-2003, 10:49 AM
I love it! :)

05-27-2003, 11:14 AM

I met him on a train once. He was on his way back on a train fom Games Workshop Nottingham!

- Oh yeah, the paintings damn coo too. I am having real trouble learning how to do things like this. Gonna get me a graphix pad to get a bit more artistic flow in the PC.

many thanx for your kind comments my friends.
you have left so many messages so quickly, i might not succeed in giving a word to each one of you mates.

-R.Quinn: photoshop 7. for (not so) obscure reasons, i remain attached to the proggie, never left it for the painter grounds.
Vash T Stampede: i'm definitely a homeworld freak. relic dudes are just magic.
Kirt: definitely. i had quite some problems for this particular area.
dsigna: foss ahhh souvenirs....
toma: i must have spent around 15 to 20 hours on it, which is a record, as i tend to never work for more than two hours on a piece. nope, no sketchies, i go straight unto the screen and doodle around. :D
pascal: yea, i received a mail two days ago, i thank them for that, as it seems to be a very serious and organised adventure. high res version has already been sent :D
just shouted a big hello to ornicar and bengal, i also told them to mooove their butts a bit and send images. thanx mate.

an extra special global thanx for your encouragments.

05-28-2003, 10:53 AM
thanks peeps.

even though i have been in the gaming industry for 7 years, it's really a pleasure to present new art to the 3d scene, people and comments are different, and it's a rich experience.
Jabo: yea i should have entered earlier. naughty me :s
cabramacho: whatever you say mate, i'll take it! much thanx :D
Vormm: naah, don't say that! :D art is such an open and infinite road. no matter the age or the level, the most important point is to begin one day, the sooner the better.
and yes, spooge-craig is a bit like the adam of digital art, we owe him much.
Zmaster: not possible to please everybody i suppose. pretty hard to add more varied tones when you've got to stick to reality, but i'll do what i can in the next pieces.
puuuf: Ralph Mc Quarrie is indeed another inspiration, that's a sure fact.
mage111: homeworld is my all time favorite videogame.

05-28-2003, 05:11 PM
If I did'nt know better I'd say this was Craig Mullins work, My hero. Excellecnt job, you are truely become a master painter.

The top picture style reminds me of an old illustrated book from 79 "Great space battlers" with drawings from Young Artists especially Peter Elson.

Who's too young? ;)

Good work! :applause:

WOOOHOOO you are here, very cool!

you are the Reason, why i am buying a tablett tomorrow. Saw your Site first and saw your work here again. Great inspiration, Wonderfull Worlds with amazing atmospheres. Visiting your Site once a Week (fan of your work) :-)

Very interesting is your formspeech. The round eyes in front of your robots, great. This circles gives them somethin really cool Design, your vehicles are for me allways an inspiration for my own formspeech. Could say you are the founder of circles and you use them so rythmic and full of harmony. This insectoid-like, combinating with industrial design. Very cool!

best wishes
