Title: Dronez Robot Highres, Alexander Hupperich (3D)
Software: After Effects, Maya, Photoshop

I thought it was time to render a highres still from our recent short film `dronezī. So here it is - enjoy.
Made with Maya 4.5, composed with Aftereffects with some little retouches in Photoshop (just because some things wherenīt meant to be rendered that big).
Here is a lowres version, so you donīt have to wait to long to see it.
And here is the link to the 3K version (roundabout a meg big)

Wow. I love the colours. Definitely reminicent of the robot from Red Planet, not that there's anything wrong with it! :) The metal material is great. It seems shiny and yet doesn't go overboard on the relfections. I hope you post a link of the video soon.

Excellent work, and i agree, it reminds me of the robot from red planet. :p

Any chance of a 10k?

That would be the perfect res for a 3' wide poster! (I'm not entirely sure of printing stuff, but that would be 3' wide if printed at 300dpi - thinking about it, things are probably printed at a lot higher than 300dpi for that kind of poster...

Ah well - would love to have that thing on my wall, though!

i cant wait to see dronez :-)

That was what I was about to say!

The only thing that looks a bit off is the transparent thing with the bars in the back, it looks as though they are not casting shadows or maybe it has something to do with the specularity. That's a minor thing though, overall it looks great!

Brillant. Looks very good with the colors and shadowing. Nice Model

Really great stuff. Just one little thing. It seams like your rim light doesn have shadows, and goes through some parts. It might be an illusion. but if it is, then there might be a better spot for it.

very good!i thought the trailer of the movie was pretty awesome as well!

05-24-2003, 08:16 AM
scharfes Teil ;)

05-24-2003, 08:25 AM
awesome, but the lightfog coming out of the cameras/eyes looks like it stops too abruptly... I dunno, but the image is 110% quality. :D
insanely awesome work man, I wish my maya skills r0xed like that

05-24-2003, 08:27 AM
really amazing stuff!!

05-24-2003, 08:49 AM
Great work!!, i like the ambient of the escene so much!!

05-24-2003, 11:03 AM
reminds me very much the robot from the movie "Red Planet", or was it "Mission to Mars" :)

05-24-2003, 02:21 PM
The only thing I don't like about it is the ship thing in the background... I looks like it's against the wall but the wall has a red hue on the right hand side. If that thing is supposed to be against the wall, it looks too disconnected... it needs to get a bit of color bleed...

Except for that it reeks style...

05-24-2003, 03:34 PM
It's really awesome. I watched the short film you guys released and it's terrific too.

But I must say, since then I have this doubt: were this robot based on the "Amy" robot from that movie "Red Planet"? Because it's so much alike!

Anyway, it's a GREAT job. Congrats.

05-24-2003, 05:14 PM
Very nice, did you use the Amiee from the movie Red Planet as a reference? It looks similar in some ways and just curious.

But nice render and nice job on everything.

Keep it up!

05-24-2003, 05:37 PM
very cool ,i cant wait to get to see that thing animated.

05-24-2003, 06:45 PM
Looks like AMEE from Red Planet (and moves like it in the short too ;) ). Great work. Totaly awesome. Dronez is one of my presonal favorites!!!

05-24-2003, 06:50 PM
Thanks for all the kind comments!

First of all - you all were right. I used AMEE(Red Planet) as reference, because it was very close to what we wanted our robot to look like and how he would be able to move.

Here the requested wireframe.

beautiful stuff, and thanks for the wireframe too

actually just the opposite, the bigger you go the lower the res needed (you'll be standing a few feet away from a poster or other large format media so you don't notice the lower res). posters and the like are usually 150dpi or lower, i've done some 24x36 posters at 150dpi that look perfect. for something the size you're talking 100dpi or even lower could prob work.
