Does anyone know of a spray paint effect for painter that lets it run down the page.
This is similar to the water color effects.

the watercolor brushes have an airbrush dab. Together with the watercolor gravity feature you should be fine.

Have not had much luck with it. Can't quite get it to run down the page. The best I can get
is to use photoshop to create a brush with a similar pattern and add Highlights.

Read this:

John Derry's Visual Guide to Watercolor - PDF (

It was written for Painter 8, but contains good information you can use in following Painter versions through Painter X.1, the current version.

In that Visual Guide, you'll find explanations for all of the Brush Controls' Water palette (or Brush Creator's Water section) controls and you'll learn how to make Watercolor paint run down the Watercolor Layer.

While the brush technology is impressive and continues to improve, Painter's Watercolor isn't (yet) quite as satisfying as traditional watercolor, but if you practice enough, you'll be able to get surprisingly nice results.

Also be sure to read about the Lift Canvas to Watercolor Layer and Wet Entire Watercolor Layer commands as those can be used to turn non-Watercolor painting done on the Canvas into Watercolor painting. It's good for painting broad washes for skies, etc, when painting directly using Watercolor variants can be problematic as color builds up when a brush stroke passes over either itself or another brush stroke.
