View Full Version : how to make StreetFighter IV `s Ink Effect ?

Hi everyone

the street fighter IV trailer movie
(Enter the site and click trailer will show the movie)
When Ryu hit to ken , Ken`s back has an Chinese ink fluid effect
and i saw this want to use this fluid feeling to another effect,
i want to use the Ink like a vine to curl up the character .

Now i think i can use the Curve tool to animate the extend length
and let that curve emit the particle ,
so i want to learn how to create that kind of Chinese Ink effect
If anybody have an idea plz help me ,thanks very much

Hi, I do love SFIV cinematic a lot too. Both Ryu vs Ken and Chun Li vs Viper.

I'm not sure which Ink do you mean. If something that look like a blush splash black ink that surely make in composite process. But if you mean the one that like emiting out of the body I think I know how to do it.

I think they make it by emit 'point' out of the surface which in this case it is their cloth. if you emit it enough you could render it and send to composite program like Adobe After Effects. Then user blur effect and glow style (might plus something else if you want) it could look like the one in this movie.

You gave me another great way to think about how to do it
and the ink effect i mean is like the link below in 00:18 sec and 00:35 sec
this is the same movie as their offical website , but it has time on it
(sorry for you guys to see the frame in youtube , because i think it`s not proper to snapshot their Movie due to the copyright things )

I think maybe it`s done by maya`s fluid effect ?
anyone has another idea ?

I think it`s only postproduction proces on clean renders, some 2d particle engine in composition software(emit from color) and some blurs/ 2d layers ink effects, it would be the fastes way to do it.
