right. I wanna have the effect of a chaingun that stops firing and thus stops ejecting shells. However when on a certain frame I turn off "active emitter" all of the shells dissapear. How do I make it so that just their 'birth' stops?

It looks like animating the Emitter > Number % will get you the results you want. Any value above 0% will have particles emitting, no particles are emitted at 0%.
