View Full Version : HMC #14: Necron Heavy Destroyer

04 April 2008, 04:08 PM
This pretty close to what I will be working on only with more and bigger weapons.

04 April 2008, 03:20 AM
Here we go! The file has been made and I am pounding out the polys and pushing points. Hope I can get this one done in time.
This is where I am at so far with floater or anti grav hull unit.

04 April 2008, 06:15 AM
looking cool so far man. I just wanted to say, when working with sub divs, don't you hate how you get so many useless polys from tightening edges? and using edge weighting just doesn't seem to give you the same look :(

04 April 2008, 07:28 PM
I know some tricks to get past those problems when weighting and bandsawing don't get me what I want.:)

GW released a book of Jes Goodwin's concept sketches, that's in their and looks much better than the one they ended up making, it has useful notes all over the page too, not sure if it would help with your project, good luck.

04 April 2008, 06:32 AM
Thanks! Those are awsome concept sketches. I like them better than what they made for the game and there are lots details in the sketches that I can build into the model.
Made some more progress with blocking in the base and getting the proportions right.

04 April 2008, 07:44 AM
That looks like it's coming on well.

I spoke to Jes cos he had those sketches on show years before the Necrons were even out, he never told me what they were, very elusive... Once it had been made though I asked him about it and he said they couldn't make the original sketch for reasons of moulding or something to that effect :(

Looking forward to watching this progress.

Update time. Thought I would throw this into layout and do some test renders.

04 April 2008, 03:25 AM
Looks good, but i canīt say much about the model and accuracy coz i donīt know the design.
What software do you use? and can we see an unsmoothed wire, please?
btw iīm glad you did get rid of this blue background :p
keep it up!

04 April 2008, 04:52 AM
Update time. I worked in the spine and tail today. That blue bg was just a screengrab from my modeler interface, I can make it whatever colour I want, but from now on the images will mostly be rendered. The software I use is Lightwave 9.3 for the modeling and rendering.

04 April 2008, 08:35 PM
Looks promising. I'll be following your progress (:

04 April 2008, 08:37 PM
nice clean modeling. Keep it up!!

04 April 2008, 03:08 PM
Thanks guys! This should really start to take shape over the next week.

05 May 2008, 05:11 AM
Update time.

05 May 2008, 11:20 AM
Wow looks nice! This is really coming together in such little time! Great job!

05 May 2008, 03:38 AM
Thanks! I overhauled the chest, put in the back spine and the shoulder armor today. Now I can get started on the head.

05 May 2008, 01:27 PM
Your work it too good! Nothing for us to crit! All we can do is stand back and compliment. So...Great work! Looks awesome!!

05 May 2008, 05:21 PM
Yeah, this is looking really incredible. Any chance we can see some wires? There's a lot of complex curvature going on with all sorts of detail embedded and I'd love to see how you approached it.

05 May 2008, 05:57 PM
oh man... haven't seen one of these in the longest time... actually liked painting the little models when i was in high school... do you have a model to work with? would help a lot... so far it's awesome  hope you win this... can't wait for the head

05 May 2008, 06:11 PM
Thanks. I will post some wires up once the head is done. I am using the game model for refs but there is only so much detail in something that small so a lot of the details I am making up as I go. I havent even started to detail it up yet but I will once all the primary parts are done.

05 May 2008, 12:10 AM
erm... without meaning to throw too much of a spanner in the works, shouldn't those vertebra be slightly further apart ? The ones right up the back, not the lower ones. Sorry, looking good aside that little detail ( which I'm not 100% sure on... )

Looking forward to seeing it was a head !

05 May 2008, 01:27 AM
I am using a model 1 1/2 inches long for refs so scale is a little diffucult to measure so its all just eyeballed and roughed in right now.

I understand that can't be easy, and like you say on a model that small there is only a certain amount of detail they can fit it, I just figured that bit is jointed as it has to move ??? And if it has to move, there should be gaps between verterba, but there are more important parts to concentrate on, head, arms, hands, weapon, on top of that and probably the major thing against what I'm saying... it will be viewed from the front so you won't even see this part, so I'll get my coat now... :hmm: :D

05 May 2008, 01:27 PM
I am not sold on how close the vertbrea are mylelf and will probably open up the gap later on when I start to detail it up. The head is very challenging because I want to do a jointed jaw and on the model it looks like a solid skull mask. So far it looks pretty freaky and will post it when I have it closer to completion.

05 May 2008, 04:00 AM
Evil now has a face....:)
This is my first character type model and the head was a lot harder to do than I first thought. I will put the targeting attachment on it later. I just wanted to make a basic Necron head to save for maybe another in the future.

05 May 2008, 08:58 AM
So, are you sticking with this head ?

I know it's only basic at the mo but it doesn't look menacing enough, not quite evil enough... The skull looks very flat at the front and the necron jaw line is much more pointy than yours.

It's coming on well though dude.

05 May 2008, 04:30 PM
Every image I have ever seen of them is different exept for the game figures. I will make some changes to it but this is about it.

05 May 2008, 07:57 PM
Here is one, kind of blurry and small buit you can still see a little detail in the face. Good job so far!

05 May 2008, 10:36 PM
It must be getting to the stage where you just want to start getting some textures on it now, I think if you could find the time to changed the face though it would be much more menacing, found you some reference, hope it's of help

05 May 2008, 06:39 AM
Made the Gauss cannon today. I still might make a few tweaks to it but have it pretty much where I like it. Pretty powerful gun so if you ever found yourself at the receiving end of this you wouldnt be worring about gas prices anymore to say the least.

05 May 2008, 07:14 AM
Looking pretty cool.

Keep the updates coming!

05 May 2008, 09:37 AM
Hey Bill, how's it going, no new :wip: from you on the Destroyer

Hope you have time to finish it, is looking good so far

05 May 2008, 12:11 PM
Very Badass! I love it!

05 May 2008, 03:05 PM
Thanks. Real work has kept me away from it but the arm almost done and I am starting on the hand tomorrow.

05 May 2008, 10:24 AM
Cool, will await updates ;)

05 May 2008, 09:11 PM
Update time. Paying work kept me away from it so progress has been slow. The arm is done execept for the final little details and now I need get the shoulder weapon done. I probably wont have this done by the deadline but I will give it a try.

05 May 2008, 10:59 AM
looking really really good :applause:

05 May 2008, 06:07 PM
Thanks! Its getting there but I wont have it finished in time.
I added the shoulder weapon today.

05 May 2008, 06:16 PM
Looks great man! This is a great peice of work, Hope you can get a lot more finished in time!

06 June 2008, 02:48 PM
I do hope you will post your entry...

06 June 2008, 02:51 PM
I thought about it but since it wasnt nearly finished. But I can if you like.

06 June 2008, 04:48 PM

Good luck-R

06 June 2008, 08:50 PM
