Latest Update: Final Image: "Intergalactic Extravaganza" (

04 April 2008, 02:21 PM (

first attempt on working on my entry for this competition, really not much to look at,didn't really want to create a main subject here but the whole city itself inhabited by humans, aliens and "uplifted beings"..

art style that i did in this one is very much cartoon like thinking that it would
really fit in the mood that i want to bring in this one.

good luck to all!

04 April 2008, 10:17 AM
Cool! An intersection, in some cosmopolitan city, full of citizens of diverse origin. I like the concept and your style. Lots of unique invention mixed in with 20th century influences.

04 April 2008, 11:32 AM (

here's an update while detailing some images..

04 April 2008, 10:57 AM
Dude! Your stuff rocks! I wish you posted your earlier working stages like rough pencil sketches for example, instead of jumping straight to detailed wip. I would have like to learn something from you.

Overall color palette is nice. I almost couldn't identify the uplifted dolphin, because it looked like a seahorse right now, the head especially.

Solid stuff here!

04 April 2008, 01:28 PM
thanks for the comments Jerome, also for reminding me about posting earlier working stages
i really have miss out posting that one,i'll upload that later, anyways seen you're work also, you've been doing well.

good luck!

04 April 2008, 02:13 PM (

forgotten to post some earlier sketches, here it is,these are two set of sketches, one from the left is another alternate concept that didn't work for me as for what world i wanted to create, as you can see the other one is what i chose..

thanks for viewing!

04 April 2008, 11:20 PM
Man thats Brilliant!! Its like a Cirque du Soleil with aliens. I specially like the colors and atmosphere. Awesome work.

04 April 2008, 06:49 AM (

from here i have just added another character to complete the group of performers and also expand the image height that eventually changes my composition a little bit thinking it would help give enough space to an already crowded image..

04 April 2008, 07:55 AM
great colors envirement & character are funny i love it

04 April 2008, 07:59 AM
Wonderful Reynan I'm waiting dfor the inal image to get close up of the details the sketches are beautiful Too

04 April 2008, 08:16 AM
Hi Reynan, its finally good to see your sketches. I like them alot. I don't have any crits to say because your style is so unique and beautiful. I'm looking forward to its completion!

Perhaps I can suggest making the Neo-Dolphin look more like a dolphin, especially for its head part.

04 April 2008, 08:29 AM
Wow! Very unusual and original style! You're obviously strongly influenced by comics, but you took a step further.

04 April 2008, 10:12 AM
hawkflying- thanks, characters really are funny, that's my intention of making this as a fun artwork.:)

scala- thanks also, hope to finish it so that i could upload the final res,,seen you're entry also and you're doing great..good luck!

HornlessUnicorn- thanks, really appreciate that and you're right 'strongly influenced by comics' + fantasy artworks + japanese animations.:)

hope to finish this asap..good luck to all!

04 April 2008, 05:32 PM
Loving your style! You got great talent there, Keep it up! :)

04 April 2008, 05:35 PM
boy this one is coming along nicely.

04 April 2008, 01:43 AM (

come up with an idea of changing both arm and replacing it with a bionic arm instead
which really helps preserve the dolphins original form as if it's never mutated like the previous one,

04 April 2008, 03:49 AM (

added a background, more buildings and etc. and made some changes for the dolphins overall look.

04 April 2008, 06:09 PM
I like your technique of working up from blocks of colour - it works really well. Looking forward to more. The colour palette is great too.

04 April 2008, 07:53 PM
thats pretty slick! i love the image so far. keep going. hope to see stronger lighting in upcomming wips!

04 April 2008, 01:54 AM
RupertD -thanks, really appreciate that. ;)

Slav - thanks for the suggestion for some stronger lighting, really is helpful, i'll try to add some later.

good luck to all!

04 April 2008, 02:03 AM (

added some intense light coming from the vehicles for some added effects also added a little bit to the background and some image detailing.

04 April 2008, 12:12 PM (

added some buildings, planet and a 'whale' like zeppelin.

04 April 2008, 07:42 AM (

more lights, added another zeppelin and some detailing.

05 May 2008, 01:25 AM (

all necessary details and images are already in places and for now its time for some more detailing.

Here’s my final image..

It’s basically about a group of ‘circus performers’ doing their spectacular circus act in the middle of a city intersection that caught the attention of the crowd pedestrians.

Instead of a stage performance at a theatre I considered doing an outdoor scene were in the city intersection becomes the center stage, the pedestrians suddenly becomes the audience, headlights from vehicles becomes the spotlights and also gives me an opportunity in making the whole city as a background thinking that it will make the image more interesting than the usual on stage performance.
The performers are composing of humans, aliens and uplifted clients such as neo-dolphin and a neo-gorilla.

So there’s the explanation, just a short summary; as you can see many
things are going on in that image, I’ll just let the viewers look at it in every detail, explaining it one by one would make this artwork not fun to look at anymore.

Hope you like it; really have fun doing this one.

Thanks for the comments from other entrants, really appreciate that.

Hope to see you all again soon on a next cg challenge.

Good luck to all!
